Man... this is such a great build thread. Too bad you've got to do it all over again! Hahaha. :D

Your heavy un-dropped axle up front has me thinking. I've got a dropped 32-36 axle (by Jordan) for my 26 Roadster w/ A frame but I think I'm going to swap it with a non-dropped since I really like the height of this frame. Who knows though? Maybe a stock spring will put it up high enough and I won't rubber rake it...

Anyway... enough about that. I love this build. Well documented!!!

  8. +1 on the rear spring hanger tech. I just picked up a pair of crusty ol' Model A bells to grab the hangers, and have a followup question: ... any advice on the best way to cut the hangers off (before I do something stupid)?

and did you TIG yours, or MIG?

    Thanks!

  9. I cut the hangers off with a torch and ground them by hand. I MIG welded them on, plus they will each have two grade 8 bolts going through them

  10. Chris - did you run into any fitment issues with the brake cylinder using this rear hanger setup? I mocked mine up yesterday, pretty much like yours, and getting the brake line in around the hanger is going to be problematic. I'm running '42-48 brakes on a '38 banjo.

Got any closeup photos of your backing plates/hanger area?

    Thanks
    Walt

i just did this with the hangers and it worked out perfectly..chris you are the man ..now get to work on the roadster already

  12. I have not run brake lines yet so dunno if I will run into problems or not...guess we'll see.

I am also buying a new (old) house, so the ol A project is gonna slow down. I was hoping to get it on the road this year...we'll see :D

  13. LoRodz, how about a pic of the rear backing plate and spring hanger area, so I can see how the brake lines run into the cylinder?? I'm trying to understand why it fit great for you but mine looks like the hanger is in the way of the cylinder...

    Thanks!

  15. Is the shock link the part that runs into yours? I looked at that on mine and that looks like the only thing that may get in the way. I'm running tube shocks so that will probably get cut off of mine.

keep up the good work and lets do some polishing!

  17. no...I already cut off the shock links off mine. The back of the shackle fitting looks awful close to the brake cylinder, looks like the fitting may rub. but I've just been eyeballing it... I'll take a run at it this weekend with a little piece of brake line.

The main reason I asked is to confirm if I need to rotate the backing plate like the guys fitting hydraulic brakes to '28-31 banjos. see http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1400356&postcount=2

Sounds like the answer is 'no'.
