Any ****** 32-48 V8 will fit...even light duty pickup 3 speeds up to 52 will work. Late 36 engines had shell bearings in em as appossed to babbit. If it's a true 36 engine (water pumps in heads and NO block off plates in block were later pumps go) and has shell bearings, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Even a decent running babbit engine is worth that...specially if it still has the 97 carb on top :D

Glad to see you are having stuff chromed, while I am spending late nights insulating the roof on your shop!

    Yes Mike, you are correct!

Worked on the car a little today. Again, using all early Ford parts I am using 40-up style clutch linkage. Beings thats what the F-1 trucks use, it was pretty strait forward. I also had to re-drill the pedal mount holes a little up and over twards the center. Then just bolt em up, hang the linkage from the ******, and that gives you the spot to mount the pivot ball. The ball will need to be shimmed down, but the nuts in the pics will work for now. I gotta get a throwout bearing and install it, then I can dial in the likage. After that, mount the body again, make sure pedals and such clear...then it will be ready to come all apart until it is put together for good!

Chris, Do you Plan to weld up the crossmembers or trust Henrys rivets?

  11. Don't forget to drop your pedals and all your linkage off at the plater, they should have it done by the time it's ready to go back together for good.:D

Billy, I'll have to wait a bit as I think I'm just gonna have the whole frame chromed. I mean, why stop with the shifter? Can you come over and help me and Russ hand sand and buff it ;)

Most regular full service machine shops should be able to swap ends and get it right. It would mean that you had to pay someone to do something but the results may be worth it.

Side note: I should have read post 161 before posting the above. It looks like you may have it handled.

    Awesome Thread I love it

  18. Impressive build. Really like the solution you found to your drive shaft problem. Innovative. Mike and Vern will have to add an addendum to their book when you are done.

Here you go, pretty basic. Simply cut off the F-1 mount flange and do the same to an A box...toss the F-1 flange aside and use the A flange on the F-1 box. Gotta tapper each side for good weld penetration. Also rebush the housing when done. The book goes into great detail in this. Hope this helps.

I don't know on the bushing, I would guess from any Ford restoration supplier or bearing supplier. The ID/OD appears to be the same, so a bushing for either would work...but I would go with an F-1 only because thats the box and sector your using. They may even be the same bushing for all I know.
Cool thing about this whole set up is that you can also pick the angle in which the steering shaft comes up to the dash. Get it lined up were you want it, tack it, and then weld er up.

Not much going on as of the late, been out of town. But, worked on getting some 97's stripped and cleaned, rebuilt them tonight and also cleaned up the intake manifold.

PM-7???? Nice Chris!!! I buddie of mine just bought one from a feller for $100 which I thought was a score and a half. I can't wait till I can get started on my 59a. I have 2 rebuilt 97's sitting on the shelf that are just itching to be used!

Yeah, it's a PM-7. Your buddy SCORED dude! I'd ****in pay 100.00 all day long for these things...job or no job :D

Tonight I rebushed the clutch fork shaft bosses in the trans case, installed a new shaft, pressed on a new throw out bearing, and bolted the whole shibang up. The hooked the clutch pedal up and wouldn't you know...it works! Next step is dropping the body on for (hopefuly) the last time before the ch***is is painted.

thanks for posting your buid I have learned a lot reading it. I have a 29 coupe and am thinking about using a flat head instead of a small block chevy. Your workmanship is awesome.

Wow thanks! I think my workmanship is pretty ****py. It gets the job done but I have a ton of room for improvement! I learn everytime I work on something.
    Flathead before SBC anyday!!!
