    Hi
I was building a speedster but have had a change of heart and am now building a roadster pickup so I think a new thread is in order.
I picked up some rusty swap meet bits and have spent many hours cutting and welding patches.
the collection came with a cowl one very bad door and a repo rear section with 2 repo longer door skins. I am building the door inners from RHS and using original style locks.
I don't have a set of original hinges, but I do have a set of Tudor? hinges.
Can anyone see a reason why I can't modify them to fit? Below are some picks of what I have, I do have a roadster that I could measure off buts is about 3 hours away and I won't see it for a few weeks.
    Any advice is gratefully accepted.

[IMG]That hinge on the bottom is from an open body A, notice how the closed body hinges above it on the body side are curved or bent backwards placing the pin in different centers. That will have some effect on things, so there may be some heating and bending in the future. Nice project.

That’s a lot of work, I’m piecing together a roadster pickup can myself to sell off to fund my 34 truck build. I ended up buying a set of open hinges from Early Times Autos, I think I payed around $200 for the set.

Wrong style of hinge for a rpu. The position of the hinge pin is absolutly critical to get the correct swing of the door. The bottom hinges should be a different length. Get the right hinge.

I hear you, however I had these hinges so I am giving it a go, I did drill the top hinge at the same place as the one piece of roadster hinge I have. I then used a rod through the top and bottom hinge to line up the pivots. I am trying to buy as little as possible not that I couldn’t find the funds, but I like using what I have and building stuff. If it doesn’t work I will buy some and it keeps me out of the pub. IMG_6989.jpeg

If it helps this is the top and bottom hinge positions on a stock rpu

  13. You might try shimming the cowl at A-post...this should bring the back edge of your door up to better meet at the rear quarter panel. It will also even out the door gap at the rear edge of the door.

Door skins on, that’s a lot of tap tap tapping.
Pretty happy with them but I think I will have to move the hinges in a bit, considering slotting the hinges in the doors and making them adjustable.

could someone please provide me with a measurement across where the the red strap is on the outside. I need to build an inner structure for the rear tub section, I would like the measurement at floor level as well but I know that is difficult to measure with a seat.
    Thanks in advance.

    IMG_7075.jpeg IMG_7074.jpeg IMG_7073.jpeg Ok next thought
I have some tourer b pillars left over from a previous project, my tub rear is repo and somewhat floppy, I am considering grafting the b pillars into my repo tub which would have original holes for the latches and a nice brace at the bottom, what do you think?

Decided to go with the repo rather than the original posts, did some more work on the floor frame, came out pretty good. Next I got hold of the ****yist hood with broken off hinges, going to try and form up some replacements.
May be awhile before I can get at it as I am going to have my prostate out next week, apparently they use a robot! IMG_7153.jpeg IMG_7152.jpeg IMG_7154.jpeg IMG_7155.jpeg

Ok robot job done, not as much fun as you would think!
Been working on the hood hinge, got some 1mm cold rolled cut to width. Made a little jig to bend them up easy to do and turned out ok I think.

Good plan on the RPU, and great progress! I'm following...

That's my robot they used. I've worked for Intuitive for 30 years. Just retired at the end of February. I was employee number 7 back in the day. Now it's a company of near 17,000!!! Love the tech, and if I ever need surgery, I hope I can get it done with daVinci. Hope you're feeling well.

Thanks Jeff, good job on the robot, not feeling too bad, they tell me before the da Vinci robot the road to recovery was long and hard. I had a quick peak at the robot before the put me under, reminded me of something from a sci fi movie.

    Thanks
I know Fred, bought lots off him when I built my roadster years ago. I recently got the windshield Staunchens from him for this project.
