Okay, hate to have to make a special post for this but it will likely help others. Woyld be nice to have a break down of stanchoin height and w/s frame heights that correspond. For example, I just ordered 32 upper stanchions thatre chopped 2" what size w/s frame should I order?
Mine is a 28-29 so I don't know if it helps but at 6ft 5in I made a windshield frame out of 3/4" tubing and propped it up on the cowl then fabbed up stanchions to fit said frame. Once I was happy I cut an original w/s frame and had glass fit to it.
A 2" chopped deluxe 30-31 windshield. It's better to get the frame then cut and reweld model a stanchions. If you are going to run a top and plan on leaning the windshield back at all the nubs for the header to fit on will be at to much of an angle to the rear, so you would need to cut and rotate the tops of the stanchions. cutting stock ones you can get the length and angle you want.
The car is a deluxe but the upper stanchions as I said above are 2" chopped 32 stanchions so that changes the formula a bit
So the 32 upper stanchions and the 30/31 upper stanchions are the same length? And 2" chopped is 2" chopped regardless? The reason I am asking is I would like to order a chromed w/s frame so getting the correct height is important!
IIRC, the 1932 and 1930-31 Ford upper windshield stanchions are the same height. And as you say, 2" is 2".
I guess to be clear...30/31 deluxe upper stanchions and 32 stanchions are the same? So as stated above, a 2" chopped deluxe frame is whats needed
I ordered 3" chop '32 stanchions for my '31. I had talked to Sid Chavers about a bop top and he swore up and down that it would be less than a 3" chop on an A, but I had my deluxe windshield and cut it down to fit the stanchions, and I had to cut exactly 3" out of it. It's easy to cut down an A windshield frame without damaging the chrome.
