Is it a difficult project converting from rumble to trunk on a '30 Model A Ford coupe? Is a kit sold for this conversion? What about the panel under the trunk, does it remain the same?
No, it is simple. All the parts available from any of the Model A suppliers-Snyders, Brattons, etc. First, you do need to change the inner panel below the deck lid. The one for the trunk is straighter and has a ledge that holds the truck catch. Then, you need to install trunk hinges at the top of the deck lid and the deck lid support that will hold the trunk in the open position. The trunk hinges look more like normal hinges than the heavy, A-shaped rumble hinges. Finally, you'll have to put an hole in the bottom of the deck lid for the trunk handle and, if I am not mistaken, the truck latch is different than the rumble latch, so you'll have to get one of those too. All these parts are available new and the original Model A deck lid is designed to be used as either. All the floor pans are the same for trunk and rumble seat and all the holes are drilled for either trunk or rumble seat. It is a really easy change over, the only "work" required will be to fill in the hole where the rumble seat handle was.
Its really easy to make the conversion, I used chevy hinges and drilled the hole to accommodate the rumble handle. I used the lower panel and cut the inside so it did not sweep into the trunk.
