I think my A needs some extra occupant protection. So I am trying to figure out how to put in a roll bar or cage in it. It has been on the road about three years and it is just a little nerve racking to put momma in it with out some form of protection and seat belts and blast down the hiway. What I am lookin for is idea's and suggestions on how and what. I want to be able to bolt five point harnesses to it and get maximum protection from side and rear impact. The body is welded to the floor, which is bolted to the frame. I have a 32 frame which sets approximately 3" in from the edge of the body. I am not sure if I should cut the floor and weld to the frame or weld plates to the floor and weld to those ? It does not need to be NHRA legal but I think in this instance stronger and overkill is good. So what have you guys done ? Pic's ? Open to anything !

    Thanks,

Get you 6'' x 6'' plates and you can bolt them through the floor to the frame for a base, then start forming your cage from there. .

Thanks for the input. If I go this route should I center the bar over the frame, then offset it to it into the body sides right after I come through the floor ? Also I want to have as much side and rear protection as possible. Any and all thoughts and pics are appreciated. One other thing is I am torn as whether to go with cro moly or regular tube what are the weight differences, because if the weight savings are worth it I will use moly tubing and will probable have someone with more experience do all the welding. That being said you guys have anyone could recommend around the KC Mo area who is proficient in cage building and cro-moly pipe welding ?

    Thanks,

You don't need chromoly. It's not worth the extra money to save a few extra pounds in a street driven model A. The cage is mild steel in my pickup.

I was concerned about the same thing, some kind of side impact protection
on my Morris minor project so I bent up an NHRA legal 8pt. that will have swing out door bars. I attached it to the frame I built and to the floors with 6x6 plates. I did not use chrome moly as I thought the cost of a tig welder to weld it in, although telling the wife that I really need a new tool for her safety was good selling point. I used mild steel and my trusty mig and my Speedway bender to fab it up.
