    well im back at it again, dont get me wrong i like the way my coupester drives, but this car needs a flathead, so i pulled the 8ba motor out of my 50 ford custom, to put a stronger motor in it, i had the flat head put on the side for a rainy day, well i decided to pull the 4 cylinder out of the coupester and get to installing the flathead, picture is of the old motor and cleaning up the frame of the old motor mounts and makeing room for new mounts and new brake lines, everything now has to be moved back 5 inchs to fit snug to the fire wall.

    That 2.3 will make more power than a flathead get better gas mileage and cost 1/10 of what a flathead would. It looks real good from my house.

    I know the 2.3 performs way better than a flattie but its not a hot rod unless their is a flathead in it ....2.3 is for sale though more picks to come tonight

    i had a busy day today, i got the transmission adapter from the company called we're 32 today, its and adapter that mates a t-5 to a 8ba flathead bell housing, i need the extra gearing so i can get better milage and stay at good highway speeds here in new york 3 gears aint gonna cut it, ill get blown off the road at 55 in a roadster, i think its a wise chioce since i want to be able to drive it more than i usually do.
    [IMG]
    here itis mounted to the transmission.
    [IMG]
    after a long day of running around trying to find all new hardware i finally got the motor and transmission into the car final mounted, than i moved onto the late 30's intake manifold its all aluminum and is light as hell, i used a brand new 94 holley i had sitting around, to top it off, than i mounted the slingshot alternator mount so i can run 12volts throught the car, i also mounted the thermostats and the housings, the hoses are just on not fixed yet,
    [IMG]
    here is a front shot of the motor sitting in the car, tomorrow ill finsh installing the center pulley it had gotten to late to finish removing the fan blade from the pulley, ill get to that in the a.m and get the front all finsished up,
    [IMG]
    i also started fitting the headers on the driver side, its real close to the steering box but nothing a cut off wheel and welder cant fix ...all in all i had a busy 2 days.. stay tuned in for more updates...

    Thanks tj,
    its getting their ...the intake manifold worked out awsome, the heads fit good except for the thermostat housings the mounting holes needed to be reemed out a bit...now they fit snug..and the headers fit perfect on the passengers side, the driver side not as much, I had to cut the drivers up and move the tubes around the steering box their almost finished....thanks for the great deal on the intake, heads and headers. ....

    * todays update* 1/19/2014
    so i had a busy sunday supposed to be relaxing but i cant,im itching to start this flattie up and take a ride. so i started the day off with cutting the fan off the front pulley, i know, i know. but im running a electric fan do to very tight engine compartment space. so i cut the fan off the pulley just infront of the pulley bearing retainer clips so the pulley wont walk off the shaft cleaned it up painted it black and mounted it to the front of the motor looks clean and complete now.
    [IMG]
    after that was all tightend down i moved onto the starter, cleaned it up painted it, put some antiseeze on the shaft and bolts, installed it to the engine, than moved onto the passenger side header, i had to trim a little bit of the header do to frame clearance, nothing major now it aims down not straight into the side of the frame.
    here shows how close it is to the frame rail, all cleaned up and high temp vht painted

    Really like your car a lot. Enjoyed watching you bomb around in it at the Jalopy Showdown last spring and like seeing you're doing the heart transplant.
    We had a clearance problem with the d/s exhaust too. Had to cut the center port and redirect it forward to clear the steering box. That wasn't too bad but the rear port was just too tight to the steering shaft and had to flatten the pipe out a bit. Not ideal, I know, but it seems to run fine.
    Hope you're keeping TJ out of trouble.
    Good luck with the V8.

    Thanks for the kind words yeah jalopy was a sick time, hope to be back this year.
    Yeah the drivers header on the driver side I did the same thing , I cut the center section out 're directed the 1 st tube around the back of the steering box than connected second tube straight down kicked back towards the oil pan than flattened out the rear tube and joined it into the other two....I ran out of welding wire or it woulda been just, smooth it out and heat paint it ..I may wrap them in header wrap also ...not sure yet

    All the header rap does is make the headers rust out much faster.

    * update *
    finally got to get the motor runnnning..lol...
    i had some trouble but it runs awsome.here is how my weekend went, so i only had to wire up 2 things since the car had been previously wired up. i connected the key on wire to a ballest resistor from a 1958 chevy impala on the positive side, than ran the other side of the ballest resistor to the positive side of the coil, than ran the black wire from the 1950 ford distributor to the negitive side of the coil, i had to use the ballest resistor so the coil would drop some ohms and wouldnt fry the points. so after that i installed a set of 7mm wires to the plugs and distributor cap, added some fuel to the carb and cranked the key, got nothing, i couldnt figure out how i had plenty of spark and fuel but not run. so im standing their feeling stupid, and then i remember calling a really well known flathead shop and ask for some help, when i was building the engine, i called to ask where the timing marks were on the factory 8ba timing gear, he says its a line not a dot, so i look at what i thought was a line in the gear and set it to 6 o clock and button the motor up,,now come to where the car wont fire and im trying everything, so i look on the ha.m.b at where the top dead center marks are on a 8ba flathead and low and behold their is a dot not a line, so friday night i rip the front of the motor apart and re set the timing. get it all together and fire the motor, it started on the 2nd crank,,, awsome rite, ???? wrong!, so i let the motor run for about 3 mins at a time than shut it down do to break in slowly. on the last try i let it run for about 5 mins to get warm, as soon as i hit the throttle oil shoots out of every gasket so i get scared and shut it down. im like wtf? i realize i kept smelling a strong oder of raw fuel looked into the carb and realized the brand new holley 97 was pissing fuel into the manifold for a week and didnt know, it filled the oil pan with about 2 gallons of raw gas, it was gravity feeding the entire week and i never knew. i instantly grabbed a bucket and started to drain the gas and oil from the motor. their was exaclty 10 quarts in the motor enough to put to much pressure in the motor, causing all the fluid to shoot out of some gaskets, after dumping the oil/ gas i put fresh oil and started the motor about a minute at a time and drained the oil 3 more times before letting it run for 5 mins at a time until the motor was warm. thank god i put really thick assembly lube on everything before assembly or id be screwed.. all in all the motor runs very well with no more oil leaking out of anything and sounds very healthy. i have video but cant post for some reason..will do soon ..

    Damn! I had the same issue on my single seater, The float had a tiny hole in it and it would sink causing fuel to leak down into the crank case from the carb. not good. Did you find out why your carb was leaking?

    Motor looks good, sound even better!

    Yeah cause its a piece of shit holley
    And I hate them ...rather use my Rodchester but it won't work, it was a combination of things, 1st it was old gas with lots of old in tank material floating passed 2 filters into the carb causing lil bits of dirt to clog the float seat, than I also realized I was using my 7 psi , pressure regulator, on a 2 psi carb...this again is why I like Rodchester carbs mine was built for a good amount of psi...but I fixed it . Put a smaller pressure regulator and cleaned the carb, all is good ill post a video shortly. ...im trying to grt everything up front situated, before moving on to transmission and clutch linkage ...almost their another full week and im home free,

    Finally an update .
    After having to relocate to a new home in the middle of the recent snow storms, and finally getting somewhat settled in, I had the entire day today to get some things on the coupester completed, I installed the carb spacer I received from speedway motors, let me just tell you its a complete peice of garbage, need alot of grinding to fit, so with that I adapted my 2 bolt rodchester carb, Wich is a 2 bolt to my flathead manifold wich is 3 bolt, car fired rite up and ran great, it has awsome throttle response. After that I got down to figuring out the new aluminum radiator situation. I orderd a aluminum radiator, but when they sent it to e they made a mistake and sent it to me with "2 upper outlets, my radiator hose going into my 8 ba are 1-"1/8 so I had to get reducers wich I found today. The entire cooling system is plummed, I filled the radiator up and started the car, temperature was good even without a fan it crept to 170 than the t- t stats opend so I know everything is working great.I just need to get a "15 fan and put the grille and hood back on. Fronts pretty much ready to go.after that its onto the clutch linkage and driveshaft...stay tuned for more updates and pictures. ...

    here is a shot of the flathead motor you can see the tight fit in the engione compartment, also you can see the 2 spacers needed to fit the 2 barrel rodchester. im going to try and rebuild the t spot style ford carb, it will sit alot lower and should run just as good as it does now if not better.
