Technical model a steering column

    i have a 1930 model a that i am converting to cross steering.i am using a 1937 steering column. just the column & shaft no gear. i need to attach a u joint to the column shaft the column is 1.3/4 id the shaft is 3/4 od is there a bearing i can get to do this . i am sure its been done. thank you

    I did the same thing, measured the ID and OD and found a bearing on Amazon to use. On the shaft, I milled the shaft for a DD universal joint.

    Are you sure the tube is 1-3/4”? Most old Fords of that era are 1-1/2”. Lots of guys find what are called wheel barrow bearings at the hardware store. They have a shoulder that keeps them from sliding into the tube too far.

    I have used both of these
    Slide inside tube , & cut grove on shaft
    Round & DD , grove for Snap Ring

    I made a bushing out of delron turn down the outside to correct size same with inside.
