Hello A-Rods, What is involved in replacing Model A steering with later '37-'48 Ford type? Thanks, V.L.
The '37-'48 passenger car type will work, but is usually mounted on it's side with the pitman arm pointing up. Not so good for anti bump steer geometry. It can also be mounted in it's nataural cross steer style as well, but is a bit bulky and wants to occupy the same space as a flathead or hurst style motor mount. A way around that is to cut the input shaft and do a couple of u-joints from the column, but lot's find that too "Street Roddy". In my opinion, the best traditional steering box for an "A" is a '47-'52 F-1 box with the model "A" flange adapted, as per Mike Bishop's book. They use the same basic internal components as the '37-'48 pass car box, but a body that is better suited to your needs.
