I'm planning to put in an early F1 steering box into my A build (B8A) and was wondering if the length of a stock F1 steering shaft/column fits well in the Model A Coupe or does the shaft and column usually need shortened? I hope to mount the box in the frame rail, but may have to mount it on top of the rail due to clearance of the B8A...

    What did you do? pics?

  2. The guy that does this for the Model Restorers (yes, they cheat a little at times) is Mel Gross, melmodela@aol.com or (714) 292-8660. Give him a call and he might be able to help.

yes, you'd have to cut the f1 column way down to fit an A. i believe one of the tardel books illustrates the method of inside the frame rail mounting, i've seen 'em mounted ontop also.

IMO this is the best way. Easier than the Tardel way. I didn't even take my box apart for this. There's a post in my build thread about doing the f1 box. Mine is through the frame rail. I cut the flange off my f1 box, made a flange. Here's a link to my build thread post 113, there's even a print for the flange.
