Just took delivery on a set of '32 rails from Riley's. Now that I'm out of mad money ,looking for examples of fabricated Model A crossmembers for the front end. I know there has to be some on here, thanks.
Not trying to tell you to buy more shtuff but....Brookville has a nice stamped Model A front crossmember for aout $70. You already know you'll have 1/2 of that into materials and the other 1/2 in time.
I made these from 10 gauge at work. I figure theyd probably be lower than a stock model A crossmember by about 2"
the pics arnt showing up but you may hit the guy up and maybe he can fill in the gap, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17769&highlight=crossmember if its the one i remember it came out looking pretty damn nice!!
FatCat over on the Rodding Roundtable made a nice looking A front crossmember from scratch. I think it's posted as a tech article.
After fabbing the model a style front crossmember for my pickup, I can tell you that statement rings true! A lot of time wrapped up in that... You better pony up the thickness on those to 7 ga. or build some triangulation into them. They will bend and pinch the spring eventually. Ask me how I know...
Here is a great tech by zibo on making a factory looking A front crossmember. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=297035
