I'm getting ready to swap out from Model A to a 39 transmission. Can someone help me with a list of the parts I need around the U-joint? I already have the bell housing adaptor/pedal mount/ebrake mount kit from the usual vendors Apparently I can't use the Model A bearing retainer The Model A part has 4 bolts and the V8 6 Do I use the 42/28 one in Macs? I see in the Model A picture a bearing retainer, inner U-joint cover, and top and bottom outer U joint cover. Model A bearing retainer and out top/bottom U joint cover 39 trans 6 holes with Model A bearing retainer 4 holes Model A bearing retainer and top/bottom outer U joint cover V8 bearing retainer 6 bolts on one side and 4 bolts on the other
I used the stock 39 bearing retainer with the mounting ears cut off and clam shell from the 39 on my swap. Do you not have the 39 bearing retainer?
You can use any year bearing retainer, I used a 37-40 that had a broken mounting ear on the drivers side...fit next to the battery perfect. Then use a stock 32-48 cup and clamshell. It all fits like a glove
Right, any '32-48 torque tube type retainer plus you need the inner and outer U-joint covers from same years. V-8 and most model A's used the same U-joiny, interchangeable, but if you have the sort of A joint made of riveted strap, junk it and get the good one.
