That is a neat locomotive but the chief engineer is a jerk. He does little for the U.P.'s public relations.
Those were the days, awesome power in them locomotives.and you wonder how many times that was done by the younger generation back in the day
I have several friends that work for U.P. , and I would have to agree. The Challenger is AWESOME !!! to see in person which we have done several times. Last fall was one of the best, we were there to see it pull out and it was a bit brisk out. Just a great thing to see it putting power down and making steam !!!
the guy looked good for 70 he was pushing he **** out of the A , the locomotive was barely just cruising
That old fart has some stones! P***ing all those cars on a two lane.He must have an overdrive and/or some hop up parts on that banger. My stocker sure wouldn't do that. Very cool.
Thanks Mr. Fan, That was very cool ,I enjoyed it . Thanks for the time to post and for sharing , I would never had found that !
Cool video, kind of slow-paced, but good none the less. I have a deep appreciation and respect for the early mechanical stuff that isn't fast by today's standards, but how cool would it be to keep up with a train in your personal vehicle back in the day! That's just too rad.
Horse power to weight...??? The train at over a million lbs. not including the cars it was pulling versus Model A at 2,500 lbs... and the train has it in spades because of the torque!
i can remember my grandpa tell me about racing trains back in his day.till one day the tracks kept going straight and the road didnt, he lost the race and his car that day.
very cool, and the "box cars" it was pulling is the private luxury cars for the c.e.o's of U.P., i had to go service a modern locomotive that was pulling them through my yard they have a staff of servants and private chefs, 2 of the cars is just the kitchen
