1931 model a truck. Was missing roof when I started so I'm not sure how to align the new pieces. Can anyone help?
You are missing a big wood header piece. I think your panel needs to move back a bit so the notch on the lower front corner fits over the post. But why is the panel so low at the rear of the door? No room for the drip rail. Did you do the cutting on the door? Maybe the "repairs" on your parts are not correct and a little long or short in spots. On second glance, it seems you don't have the wood above your doors in place either. So basically you are just hovering the panels in the air and asking why they don't fit? If you are planning on making your own internal bracing, you are also going to need to modify your outer panels. It's only a jigsaw puzzle if you have all the pieces. If something is missing you'll need to use more imagination.
All the pieces are just clamped together for now, no adjustments made. I don't want to go with any wood and I'm going to have a metal roof.
I'm wanting to replace and wood pieces with tubing as with the header panel but I can't find a good reference to go by
Above the header there is quite a bit of gap that is taken up by wood and covered by the top fabric. It was never meant to be seen. You will need to build it from scratch out of steel now if you are doing a filled top. I'd suggest pushing the back corner of your panel up so you have a good fit above the door's rear corner, and making your bent back of the cab fit the new panel. There is probably a steel strip that runs under the wood above the door that you are also missing. It should tie the cowl to the back panel at the proper length, but I'm pretty sure it also screws to some wood bracing. Use lots of clamps, short pieces of steel tacked into place spanning gaps, and wood blocks, to hold the cab square and straight. Then you can start adding the bracing and welding the skin together. You are making your own jigsaw puzzle pieces.
I youneed the wood pieces or the metal replacements to get everything to line up correctly. Can you borrow a wood set?
