This is the first build I have ever started to document and it is going to be a long one. I want to build a bonneville styled car someday but I am content on driving it as a rat rod for now. I am sure I will have to adjust many brackets/ideas before I am done with this build for this is my first car any where close to this age. Here is what I started with in mid 3 weeks ago.I bought a stock frame for 200.00 at a local swap meet and the body for 1200.00 which came with a 2by3 frame with a 3 inch Z and a suicide perch.

Good luck dude! But ditch the R*Trod word. :D I'm right down greenback from you, one block further and I'd be citrus heights too.

I have to re-chop the first chop. Everything was at least 1/4'' off at every pillar and windshield post were off even more! This car will stay rusty and impracticle for a while.I would consider that ratty(or a rad rod). When all the bugs are worked out and I have some more funds I will tear it down and make it more of a dependable weather-tight daily driver with a nice paint job.More of a traditional hot rod. I like both styles and I dont think "Rat Rod" should be a dirty word or be offensive if that is truly what you have. Most model A's in the "traditional scene" are more of a rat rod than a car true to good ol days of hot rodding in my opinion. And I still like them !:D

digging the photos. I say ditch the r*trod word because a lot of guys build stuff that is totally unsafe and think it is cool because they can call it a 'r*trod'. Build what makes you happy and thats all you have to worry about.

I scored a 9 inch rear end out of an old lincoln and tack welded some so-cal brackets to use the stock buggy spring and hold the axle in front of the spring.I set the rear end on stands and made sure the front plate was plum. Then I welded the brackets at 5 degrees. I removed the top three leaves and put them on the bottom of the pack lowering it even more.

It looks to me like the engine is sitting high.
What is your reasoning for it being so high or is it just resting there for now?

Its just resting for now. I need to build motor mounts this weekend for it. The lower the better for me. I could use the feet space:D

  12. Good luck! Please don't make it a "shit rod" make it something you can be proud of!

I used the same measurement as the original banjo rearend. 49 inches from center to center of the tubes on the brackets.

Over the weekend I managed to find some time to work on my sedan. I went to the hardware store and bought some steel pipe and welded some 3/16" plate to make some motor mounts. I had some 3 inch channel that I made a******* mount with and split the wishbone with welded bungs. Everything will be tacked into place until my entire frame is configured since im sure I will have to make some ajdustments.

Looking cool. But why a SBC? I put a Flathead in mine (it's a Ford after all). Just a thought.

There is a few reasons for the SBC. The first being its free. Secondly I have so many speed parts laying around for chevys. A flatty would be nice but until I win the lottery that aint goin to happen.:D

Whats the measurement of your Lincoln rear end inside drum to drum? I am building a Modifided Sedan with a short wheel base but the same width as your Tudor. The build looks great and you got great clearance.
