Projects Model A Tudor SEGA Gasser build

I’ve been meaning to post up my current build for a while now, but I’ve been so busy trying to get it finished before the first race on April 13 that I haven’t had time until now. Anyway, here’s what I started with. The build began on December 28,2018

 

Bought a pair of model a style rails from studleys rods to save a little time. Mocked the parts I had up to start getting a general feel of where this thing needed to go

 

More cutting and getting things figured out as far as location of everything ensued. Ended up z’ing the rails in the rear to make life easier

More planning and a little fabrication, I can’t take credit for nearly all of this. Quain Stott, Donovan Stott, and Cameron Brown have all pitched in. Had my buddy Tyler Horne torch out brackets as we went where we could which saved a lot of time too. Got the engine where it was going and turned some nylon down to fit the mains and some tubing in order to get driveline angle perfect. Went with long 2x3 ladder bars. This was probably around the first few days of January 2019

 

Started getting the rear end squared away. Building this thing as light as possible. Hoping for 2250 lb with me in the car at 210lb and an iron headed smallblock. Quain is responsible for bending up the cage in record time

 

Tony Turner (quick and dirty) came through with the wishbone ends I was needing. The looked roached but came apart easy with a little heat. Got the engine and transmission in their new permanent location.

 

These updates happened around Jan 10. Got the front axle located and sprung. Worked in rear end a little more. Made the pedals, it’s a simple design that works great.

Still rolling along minus a short break to run to the SEGA awards banquet. Most all of this work is occurring between 5:30 and midnight after I’m off work, and the weekends. Got my new axles in. Fab work continues

 

Some more progress, plus I took a Sunday off to get my new pit bike $120 score rideable

 

Got some more parts in and fabbed a little more. Got a local guy to blast my body, he does great work for cheap. Reversed the aluminum corvair box. Finally scored the Eelco tank I needed off the Hamb.

 

Got the steering figured out

 

Finally rolling. Made a ton of gussets for everything that I had been putting off.

 

Started getting the body in it’s final location. Took forever bc this body was warped beyond imagination

 

Got the grille shell, radiator and fenders mounted. Everything on the car is made with quick removal and ease of working on repairing in mind.

 

Started metal repair. Made my own patches bc I couldn’t get anyone to call me back to order any. Made the rockers removable, I probably should’ve used aluminum for weight, but hindsight is 20-20. Got in a hurry on the passenger cowl patch and forgot to put the body line in, so I’ll either remake the panel or just make the lip of bondo If irun out of time. Whatever hack did this thing the first time felt the need to hammer every body line other than the belt line flat. They had also pinched the body in a mile at the bottom, patched some places 3x over each other etc.

 

Very cool, nice build.

 

More metal repair. My skills aren’t up to what I wish they were so most of the more complicated pieces are made in 2 parts, but it’ll be good enough on a race car, and it’s a far sight better than what was there

Got the doors re skinned last Friday evening finally too. Starting to look like a decent car

 

Started filling the roof. Decided to try and do a Vicky style header to avoid the wind on the visor. I don’t like how it looks though so I’ll get a visor put on it ASAP. We are in real time now

 

I’ll be at every SEGA Race this yr. it’ll be 9.2 deck clevor with boss 302 iron heads

Worked a short night tonight, gonna try to catch up on a little rest after a long weekend of work. Got the aluminum roof insert wheeled into shape. Its amazing how sturdy a panel is once you give it some contour.

 

I like everything about it! I really like that Chevy in the background too.

What are the SEG rules on body mods? A 32 header and laid back A-pillars would make it more aero and smooth it out a great deal. It's already chopped and the drip rails have been removed.
