I have a reproduction vison on my 29 Sport Coupe. On the 29, the visor is attached by 4 machine screws at the outer ends (2 per side) and 6 or 8 wood screws that go into the header above the windshield. The problem I have is that it wants to bend up in the center. You can see that in the attached photo. I'm thinking about bending a seet metal angle and spot welding it to the underside of the visor. Another option is to spot weld a steet rod to the underside. Anyone have any suggestions? IMG_1595.JPG

Can you just manhandle it into shape? Pull it down in the center. Did you fit it before painting it?

Yes, but it still wants to bend up in the center after you drive at highway speeds.

  5. You are going to stiffen it up to keep it straight. Normal max speed for an A is 45 MPH.

My brother has a 28 coupe with a stock (repro) visor and he never had that problem.

Centre brace towards windshield with 90 degree bend attached to the visor , it wouldn’t be too obvious. Maybe bonded on ??

Early 32 pickups had a similar visor, but stamped with the roof skin. Shortly into production they started adding a small connector bracket from the front center to the header above the windshield frame like Kiwi mentioned. Might be able to add it with minimal paint repair.

here's some thing to read.... I think the bends on the ends aren't enough... I'd bet that if you take the screws out on on side the ends will pop out,... so that when you put them back in the center bows up////

also, the bottom screw hole might be off, and needs to be redrilled... or elongated....

the fits this year never fits with out redrilling or bending

I'm with @2FORCEFULL , I think the ends aren't in the right in the way it was installed. I also agree that they didn't tuck the ends tight enough and the pressure put on the metal allows it to be easily pushed up.

  14. Thirty years ago I made a triangular brace for my 29 ccpu and installed it in the center of the visor. Ultimately, I had a new heavier gauge steel visor made for my pu. That was the best solution for me.

I think you are right. It bows a little when you first put it on.

I would just un hook one side and see how far off it is... the fix might be a shim on each side...aand then you might find that when they bent it it was off a little

I took the side screws out and the end did not pop out. The bend is correct for the top screw, but I think it is a bit wrong for the bottom one. The center of the visor can be popped up and down like an oil can. I'm not sure how to go about fixing it. Maybe clamping something straight to the lip with the side screws out and see how things line up.

Easier way I would do it without removal and painting.... take both ends loose, push and shape center by hand where I could live with it, them I would go to each end and bend to corners tighter and once I had the center flat and the corners bent tighter I'd mount the screws back in where ever the mounting holes landed.

If I was re-painting, flatten it out best I could, then take a torch and heat and shrink the center to pull it tighter. Then metal finish and repaint....

If I was removing AND re-painting, straighten it best I could before removal, once off I'd do a little heat shrinking in the middle, once I got the fit right, I'd weld a small steel rod to the front perimeter of the visor, just under and back of the front edge to keep it out of sight front the outside. This would help give it support at highway speed...

    Paint and reinstall....

do the same thing on the other side...when you un hooked the one side did the center go back to straight? a good fix if you are gonna weld on it is to use a small pencil rod tack welded to the under side... one way to easy check whats going on is tom take it off... lay it flat on a table , then check the measurement to haw wide it is and check each end with a square.... one of the sides is off enough that the screws are pulling the ends in causing the center to pop up..

another thing you could do is get longer screws that you could mount it with it loose and look to see what side is off. but like said... put it on a table to make sure it straight and the hole are right with out twisting one side or the other... it has to go on with out tweeking the sides or it will pop up in the center... but if it is in fact too thin of gauge metal.... the fix would be pencil rod or small tobing welded to the front edge.... where did the visor come from???? does it have a bead rolled front edge???? I've made these before and without a bead rolled or tubing of sort welded to the front edge... they were hokey ass visors that flopped around when you drove the car...
