This probably sounds like a stupid question, but what are the main differences between a model A pickup and a model AA truck? Thanks.

The AA truck was usually equipped with a flatbed but there was a long deep pickup bed as well(these are rare).
The wheelbase is longer, the frame is heavier, the trans and rearends are super heavy junk (28-29) are screw drive...YAHHHHHHHH). The front axle on the 28-29(early) are same as p***enger/little truck as is the steering box. The front spring is heavier and so are the spindles and hubs. The late 29 and 30-31 use a bigger axle and kingpins and spindles and everything.
Body, hood, radiator shell, splash apron, front fenders are the same as the little truck. The aprons and boards are either abbreviated or looong.
If you found one of these you can use the original frame which is mush thicker and deeper than the little truck bit still has the tapers and so forth. I've never seen a hot rod AA pickup but OH BOY would it be KOOL!

It's like the difference between a 1/2 ton pickup and a 1 ton (or heavier) truck

I'm planning a AA style build. I'm actually looking at the '32-'34 style, but the AA is the backup plan.

I'm just wanting to see what that bolt pattern is and whether I can find those wheels in a 16" size so's I can drop it down quite a bit. I love those wheels!

Here are a couple of those rare AA pickups (and they are scarce; these pictures show 2/3 of all the AA RPU's I've ever seen).

I may be getting the job of building an AA truck for a friend of mine ,And if i do it will be a case of the teacher hiring the student !My friend is about 12 years older than me and restores model As .He wants an updated swap meet runner.Early plans are for AA frame to back of cab custom straight frame rails from there back .Truck will be a flatbed with Ford 9 inch on parrallel leafsprings.I have to admit I am trying to talk him out of his engine/trans choice though a 63 Chevy II 4 cylinder and auto!In a little roadster I think this would be cool but not in a truck to haul parts to swap meets!
