Hot Rods Model A Wiring...For A guy's, with a twist.........

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by INVISIBLEKID, Jun 7, 2024.

  1. SO- My Q for the masses, especially with hot rods= you know who you are= How/where did you run your wiring outside of the firewall from inside to the engine compartment? Where did you punch holes, and why? What did it interfere with, why did you choose that path? I can wire all day long=easy, and that's not the issue. A's have limited room inside as you know. This is not a down and dirty make it run kinda thing, more cosmetic, as I want it clean= the more unseen, the better.
No fuel tank up front, so just the cowl cover. I've taken advantage of the space available, but still have to have both power and ground coming into the body in the front............ I really want to not have wires blowing out in several places through the firewall, and want to minimize, but some time's thing's must be done.... Thought's? ;)

  2. It depends on what equipment you have (steering box, engine, battery location, frame....), My '28 has F100 steering, battery under pass floor, stockish wood floor, boxed stock frame with holes in boxing plates, SBC and stock tank. The wiring will run across the dash (from left to right) on the tank lip, drop down into the lower side panel, through the floor, split front/rear and either inside the boxed part of the frame or I'll make a hold down on the frame (fabric covered wires).

  3. My bad......I should have included some pert info..........30 roadster/Hi Boy....... Nothing to disguise wiring...... Side steer with corvair box. Starter on right hand side =power take off for inside..........Bat is in rear. Have to take power from starter to cabin...............Power is also split through rear=trunk w/ separate panel. Under dash is thought out already, just where to exit without being gaudy............Thanks.

I used a Deutsch bulkhead connector. Waterproof and weatherproof. A quarter twist and the plug will unlock and disconnects the wiring. I put it on the drivers side of the recess of the firewall I made to clear the sbc.
One drawback with it is you need to use a special crimper for it. But I think you can rent it from wirecare. Check mavenspeed.com for the bulkhead. He has videos on making the connections.
