I bought a model A sight unseen and it has a 40 ford axle in the front. Guy said it was dropped a few inches. I haven't even seen pics of it yet. Anyone have a picture of this axle on these cars. I'm thinking it would look funny, seems kinda wide. What do you think?
The 40 axle is actually a tad narrower. If this is a lowered full fendered car the narrower axle "tucks" the wheels for better clearance. This ***umes the axle mounted under the spring like a stock Model A (takes a special width spring to do this)? Or is the spring in front like a 40? If it is mounted like a 40 the wheel base will be shorter and from the side it will not look right. Post some pictures when it comes home.
Not sure how it is mounted, wish I had some pics myself. It was a fenderless car, and I am undecided as if it will have fenders or not. I forgot about how those springs mounted on a 40. I always thought those axles were wider, guess I learned something new.
When I picked up my '30 A, it had a dropped '40 axle. I thought the car looked a bit odd at first because the wheelbase was so short with the spring in front, just as Bib Overalls said. I just finished doing a spring behind on it this past weekend. I think it looks much better now. I'll see if I can get some pictures up soon.
