Get a pad and sketch that baby out. Edsel grill.. hmmm nice. Maybe weriod, or narrow, with a flat T. Maybe if you turn it 90 degrees, offset it one way, and add 2 lights to one side... or not...

    Bilt, that's nice! Below

Thank you... I am either going to remove it or make a custom area to keep cigars or something (like a humidor)

Thanks for the input... Need to weigh my options... Seems like everyone has model a grills (I want something different)

    Different for sure!

That's pretty funny coming from a guy who's name is "flyin flattie" but has a Chevy as his avatar... :D Go back 100 pages, he knows what he has but I don't think anyone knows how to change the original name of a post. Can you help? I'd like to know myself!

People don't run A grills on T's cuz they're popular, they do it because IT WORKS! It's traditional, they fit, and they look right!

Are you asking about drilling out the spot welds to remove the firewall or the rivets that hold the radiator brace bracket?

Thanks man, I assembled it myself. Took it out of the box and even used my own tools to put it together.

Drill out the rivets that are in the indentation where hood welting would go. You can see several of them in this pic. There may be other things holding it in there (welds? bolts?) but that should be the majority of the fastening in that area.

What is a "perimeter' frame and how is it different from every other frame?

There's plenty of spot welds holding that firewall on, I'd leave it attached if you can work around it??

Something else I might suggest.... lose the 4" header and replace it with 1" tubing, It'll give you larger windshield when you chop it and look better when the top of the windshield matches up with the top of the door windows. I used a 2" tubing for a header and wish I had used 1"!! Check my thread if you have any questions.

In my opinion you shouldn't. Suicide doors are for customs, not hot rods. Its a style element that although cool, detracts from the overall finished product. Kind of like having pink streamers hanging off the bars on one of your custom bikes... It just doesn't belong.

Ok got it... Didn't know there was a difference between a custom and a hotrod... I thought that this was a custom hotrod?

A "custom" typically refers to your quintessential Merc. Think Hirohata, Matranga, Ayala, etc. Legendary "sleds" tastefully modified, and although the body mods are extensive it doesn't look that way. Everything flows, very aesthetically pleasing.

A "kustom" tends to be more radical with less restraint used during the build process. Wild body mods and paint that are meant to be in your face. Same cars used (49-51 Mercs and Fords are the most popular), many of the same processes, but kustoms are more for shock value.

Then there are our beloved hot rods. A hot rod's intention is to be stripped down to its bare essentials. Originally you stripped it down to save weight, increase aerodynamics, and go faster. If it wasn't completely necessary it was gone. Think of the dry lakes racing days. Some of these guys drove these stripped down stockers on the streets, but it wasnt about profilin' back then, it was about going fast. The trend caught on and guys began making their cars a little nicer as time passed. Before long there were really nice hot rods running around on the streets.

Then there are "street rods". Typically considered by this crowd as over-built, over-stylized cars built for collecting trophies. Often not much regard for style (think crying kid dolls, Route 66 pillows, couples wearing shirts that match their car) and doing what they saw someone else do, then copying it because it was cool, regardless if it fit the theme of their car. "Billy Bob got flames on his roadster, I'm puttin' some on my Rolls Royce!"

Just my opinion, so take it for what its worth, but suicide doors on a T sedan running drum brakes and a flathead is just wrong. It's like takin' your sister to the prom, you might think its nice (and innocent) but everyone else is going WTF!? But, its your car so if that is what makes you happy then by all means, please take your sister to the prom.

Hot rods aren't built to collect trophies or admiration. We build them for us, not for mass appeal. Sure the compliments and thumbs-ups are nice, but by following a set of unwritten rules you can build a TIMELESS car that will be in style forever.

And the humidor? Cool idea, but keep it hidden from view. Otherwise these things tend to draw the eye to the "unique features" and away from the car as a whole.... Like chrome water pumps.

Most 3 window coupes have suicide doors and they are HOT RODS. Do the suicide treatment if you dig that look, this car is ALL about you.

pennafxu....I would love to know the measurement of your door hinges off of plumb. example: if you drew a plumb (perfectly vertical) straight line 2" inboard of the center hinge pin, how far would that bottom hinge pin be from the vertical line? Thanks a bunch if you could figure that out.
