Ordered water pumps... Yippee! They are red too... So one less thing to paint! This is the wide 5/8" single belt application for my 49-53 flattie. This is also an important step as the water pumps form part of the mounting for the front of the engine. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Gotz ma engine biscuits too! Need some tea to go with my biscuits! Quick question; what if any can I use in the rear mounting position? Is there specific biscuits for that area or can I use more of the same or none at all? Thanks to all for input! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
On '49 and up, there weren't any rear engine mounts, just the two on the water pumps and one on the transmission crossmember. Glad to see you moving forward again!
Thanks!! It appears the engine was attached to the frame on the rear by the PO. Are these mounting points not considered "engine mounts." So as I understand it the rear of the engine is rigidly mounted, with no biscuits? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
No rear engine mounts at all. Just the two water pumps and one trans. Considering what you started with I'm surprised there were ANY engine mounts! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Ok thanks Eric. Looks like PO mounted to frame. So if I place a X-member for transmission that would be my mounting point?
Engine mounts came in the other day... Lost the bid on the red ones so "made my own" lol... Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Water pump/engine mounts all taped up... Using dupli-color engine enamel. Great product. Two light coats and one medium wet should get it done... Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Tape removed and should be ready to mount in 3 hrs... Waiting for my SS hardware to come in to mount them... Seems like the way these pumps mount I won't need those damn biscuits... Shit! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Those pumps were designed to fit on a C channel type of rubberized isolater. I can post pics later if you'd like. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Yes please, I think I have it tracked down though. Also can you look at my frame and tell me the exact year of it? I am looking at front end components... Appears to be Model A 28-31...??? Thanks Eric!
Stainless is forever! But these didn't take forever to get here! Gotta love speedway for shit like this... Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Yes, that's them. Sorry, been busy as hell lately! I wouldn't weld them. The studs on the bottom were designed to bolt through the cross member. Welding will likely melt the rubber mount, or at least cause separation from the steel portion causing early failure.
Not that it isn't obvious, but here is a shot of my shoebox mounts. The wholes in the cross member are elongated slightly in a triangular shape to allow for some adjustment. Rather than washers, there is a plate, roughly 3" x 4" for the bottom. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
When you say x-member do you mean the A frame side rails? Or do I need to fabricate a mounting point for these on my frame? The front x-member is for the suicide set up and my engine will mount 6 1/2" aft of that location... Please help!! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Also attached the driver side pump... Used copper gasket sealer, blue permatex and torqued down to 30 ft-lbs per the instructions. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Not the greatest picture, but this is the front cross member of my shoebox. (Very bottom of pic.) It's an engine cradle, of sorts, and ties all of the front suspension together too. I don't think you'll need anything quite as rigid, but take an angle measurement of the mounting surfaces and create something custom. OR... build two small brackets, one from each water pump, and mount those biscuit style. I'm not certain that's a great idea given the torque of the engine... someone with an engineering background will hopefully chime in. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
On to cleaning the paint off the top of the fins and putting the bolt covers on... Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Both pumps attached... Wish I had gone with the single mounting style as I will need to fab up a custom cradle mount... Oh well, live and learn. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
