My goal was the dagels x-member which is much smaller gage steel and has pretty huge holes too... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1397086747.568177.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1397086763.175464.jpg

Here you can see the smaller holes I had mapped out...

  4. Good call. 3/16" may seem thick and strong, but you can hand bend a piece of flat (if it's long enough). The ridge on the angle is what keeps it strong in the way you're using it. If you look closely at the dagels X member, you'll see that the holes are big, yes, but the distance from the edge of the hole to the bottom of the rail is much greater, more like the 2.75" holes you've got laid out.

I'm not sure where most of the flex and force tends to accumulate on a X member like you're building, but if it ends up being those pieces, you may eventually develop tears in the metal.

  30. You gotta find something else to put your mind to for a couple weeks or so when you get to feeling that way. For me it's video games when I want to tune out. I beat one or two games, then I'm ready to do something constructive again.
