Sure does seem like a decade! Glad to see you're still on it! Sent from my SM-N960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks Eric... so much going on here just need to finish this while the kids are still around... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
So back to polishing... Always have a plan in mind and the correct tools. This is an older piece so I don’t wish to remove too much material. I can get away with a pretty nice luster with very minimal pitting... I could work it for years for perfection but it’s not that important Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I use the files to knock off the major casting flash... I prefer to use air and roloc scotch brites proceeding very cautiously... I don’t like paper disks as they catch on every edge... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Preparation is everything... you need to get up to 1500-2000. Because polishing a dog turd still leaves you with a dog turd Oxidation is hard to remove manually... the nearer hole needs working Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hey man! Glad to see you back into it! I'm still chipping away too (the past couple years turned into a lifetime for me too so I can totally relate).
Thanks man! I’m waiting for my Angle finder to come in so I can line up the drive line Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'am glad you like it! My 27 T is chopped 3 1/2 inches with a 4 inch channel on a homebuilt frame that is kicked 12 inches in the rear 4 in the front [/QUOTE]you did a nice job Retro it looks cool!! Im not a T fan but Damn
Few more hours in today... worked half of a side with porting bits and 180 grit... this sure is a labor of love getting in all the nooks and crannies! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I worked some more on the intake today with fine 3” roloc disks. It’s looking really nice... I need to hit the other side then go over it with the very fine disks... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
90% of the pits and rough areas have been vanquished. The last 10% needs to be done by hand going through the different grades up to 2000. The disks don’t fit in all the tight spaces also. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
More progress today... I swear I think I’ve inhaled a pound or two of aluminum dust! I continued with the fine roloc scotchbrite disk for 3 hrs, then switched over to the very fine. I don’t quite know what the grit equates to but it is close to a polished finish right now, bling level 3 at least! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My 15 year old is helping me now and it is awesome. He is a very quick learner too. He holds the intake in whatever position I ask, as I polish which is a lot easier than a vice for sure. He wants me to build him a chopper before he graduates high school, and bequeath him the chum bucket when I move on to the highway in the skyway... I told him we would need to get on it! He always motivates me when I’m down or depressed, looks at me with his big blue eyes and says hey Pops lets get to work, I need my chopper! I’ve been through some real challenges in the last 2 years since I got serious on the speedster again and I will share what happened to me when the time comes. Anyways back to the intake... I couldn’t resist a test fit! This is not bad for how unfinished this part is... it will look like chrome when fully show polished. I will shoot a protective clear over it. I also need to order the mounting bolts in stainless. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I took some very rough measurements and need to get accurate ones after the intake is finished. At that point I will finish up the trans mount to set the carb mount at zero and work backwards. Don’t flame just yet as these are just test measurements to familiarize myself with my new angle finder... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I’ll definitely be hand washing! I wonder what happens if you use dawn green soap instead? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Really doesn't need any coatings......once polished, unless it's in a very hostil environment, it's easy to keep it polished.
Probably not, but I don’t want to ever do this again! I want to see if cerakote can last 30 yrs. I also want to experiment with their products and this would be a good place to start. I do agree the engine bay is probably not that hostile, but getting in those nooks and crannies to polish is a real pain. I figure as it’s off I might as well knock it out. Thank you for your interest. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I've used Cerakote on several of my guns. Super durable and doesn't lose the finish. I think this is a good move. [emoji4] IG: roundsixeric FB: daddio211
Ok Guys, Bling level 10 achieved! (Or as far as I’m gonna take it anyways) you can see the reflections in the polished aluminum... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Final comparison time... That is a big difference in my opinion. I think I’m going to paint the other side of the engine next... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

Next step is to knock off the casting flash... Gonna use the very fine disk Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
