Does anyone know if a model A car rear spring will fit in the AA truck frame crossmember? It isn't drilled for the U bolts to clamp the spring pack but has the hole for the bolt in the top of the spring. Guessing the rails would need a notch as they are about 2" deeper than the car ch***is. Thought it might be a tidy way to put the spring in front of the axle
Those trucks used m***ive quarter elliptical springs, not a cross/ traverse leaf. measure the width of the inside of the cross member and compare it to the width of an A rear spring. I would think the cross member would be beefy enough to function but the shape looks closer to the arch of a T spring?
Just wondered if anyone had tried this, I'm not in possession of a AA frame, one for sale a couple of hours North. I was looking at the profile of the cross member and wondering if it was possible. Travel and a tape rule would tell me, thought I might save the trek
Sorry I reread you post, it may work I just don't the dimensions (width wise) between the two. I thought you were referring to the rear of both vehicles.
It could work with some slice and dice I’m sure. I’ll wait for someone else to weigh in that’s maybe got more first hand knowledge of the rear cross member all the A’s on AA rails I know of used A cross members.
