    32 Ford Lil Duece Coupe!
We all know the real "Hotrod" Is a 32 Ford as it was bred into us even by the Beachboys! Model A Hotrod???? You bet they are cool & getting cooler! Funny thing is I have 2 32 five windows & dig them both! We are coming out with a killer Model A Gasser Solo Tee & guess what I'm either going to take my 32 & maybe make a gasser out of it & even thinking of running a Model A grille shell instead of 32 wouldn't that be a change! All non Hotrod type people ask what is so hotrod about a 32? What isn't? I tell them First year of the Ford V-8 & they say Whats that? Okay we are done! Tks Bill Solo Speed Shop

Don't mean to change the subject but is it just something about cars made in 1932 or is the the Ford "deuce" thats so popular/expensive?
What I mean is are makes other than Fords (Nash, Hudson, Willys, DeSoto's, etc) made in '32 just as pricey and unobtainable?

Never owned either but I like the A's

    I'll confess...when I was a teenager(16), I Loved hammered A coupes. I bought a 1930 A coupe body (notice I didn't say 5w) with a 4" chop for $75 and a Mallory Dual Point dizzy. Never built it, but man, I had a coupe!

The next year American Grafitti came out...I've been fucked ever since.

I'm amazed by the attitude that people that own 32s are the people that have shops build their cars or that they're posers. I own a 32 Ford Tudor hiboy, but I'm also redoing a 32 Chevy 5 window - talk about an orphan car (at least here on the west coast). My favorite cars of that era are both early Model As - the closed cab pickup and the 2dr sedan. In my opinion the 32 Ford roadster is the most overdone car going. :D

I remember seeing a 5 window coupe as a kid, I didn't know the difference between deuces and As all I knew was it was cool and I liked it. As I got older and was able to discern between the two I did favor the deuce. However, any time I saw an A I still had that memory from childhood. Anyway, it is about the cost, if you have to have steel the As are the way to go. As long as it has five windows, it has my attention.

I love early Fords... I looked at a test drove a few model A's and was ready to buy one. Actually I was going to make an offer on a '28 Tudor over a '29 Roadster (I know not many would make that choice. But the Roadster was horribly uncomfortable to get in and drive and the Tudor wasn't. Both were running driving cars and it pretty nice condition.

Then I came across my '32 4-door. It was a little more money and not running and driving, but a complete solid car. I figured even though it was more money it was the smarter move to get the '32, plus I just really love the car. I think I am going to keep the B-motor and eventually make it a banger.

This thread is 4 yrs old and maybe there are some newer members that would like to chime in on this debate.. Not so much about cost and availability but more on popularity and the type of hotrods they make....

A 32 is a Model A's chubby brother! More rare for sure, but a little chunkier.

  12. I'm not sure that you can have a conversation about 32 popularity without talking about cost and availability. But that's been hashed already.

There's tons of hype about the 32. Perfect, most beautiful, the ultimate hotrod, etc. Personally, I never understood what all the hype was about. I guess the 32 styling just never stirred something special in me.
Give me a 30/31 coupe or a 33/34 coupe over a 32 any day. In my mind there's nothing better.

  13. The visor is the thing that pushes the A in front of the deuce for me. They look more aggressive. I even prefer a channeled A on A rails to an A on deuce rails. With that said to me an AV8 is about the realest hot rod you can get. Most deuces seem to get pushed toward the street rod, while most A's go toward the hot rod side of things.

A few people get bothered about it being said that most 32 are shop built not owner built. I know it happens especially here on the hamb, we have real 32 owner built rides. go to a show and look out over the field of deuces and really see how many have the belly button 350 with a th350/th400/700r4 combination. Remember Hambers are the exception.

I would also pick the A for many of the reasons listed. I like the visor, I like the fact that it's not sacred ground and I can do with it as I please, 90% of the population think it's a 32 anyway, they don't have a clue. Only way I would ever buy a 32 is if I "barn found it" for cheap and then I'd sell and invest in my A or a couple of A's!

There is nothing nicer looking to me than a '30-'31 Model A on a '32 frame highboy style.....to me a '32 is a Model A without the visor and rounded up a little more.....and a prettier frame....I hate Model A frames done Highboy style....their just not clean looking to me...the '32 frame ads that little extra added touch to the lower side of the body and makes it all flow......I think the '32 is what Henry really wanted the Model A to be, but they were selling Model A's so fast, they couldn't stop long enough to start producing them............There's somone around that has a Model A on a '32 frame...he did away with the visor, grafted the '32 windshield and slanted the post a little and made the doors close flush like a '32.....I walked by it 2 or 3 times before I realized it was an A.........my problem is I like both.

Way less work and way more fun!! ;-) I've had both of those, can't say the same for the 32 but I'd guess it is very similar!!

Model A's v 32's - that's a question that has had me perplexed for some time.

Model A's are harder to build, as the cowl area is narrower than a 32. Makes fitting in 3 pedals a bit tight. You sit higher in a Model A, so getting the seating right is harder.

There are probably more 32's on the road now than were ever produced back in the day. At a run you'll likely see a sea of 32's :)

So many more hot rods in the 40's were Model A's, that they have a "richer" heritage than a 32.

No-one reproduces a Model A coupe in steel. Having one means you are working with original iron, paying homage to Henry's vision.

    I like them both.

If the 30' or 31' model A and 32 were side by side in the same style, build etc, I would take the model A. I like the body lines better. I understand the 32's impact in hotrodding, the value, yada yada. Good thing we all don't like and build the same thing. It would get boring easy.

I was going thru this thread trying to come up with my good answer. Thanks Chris.
My very first project after getting married in 1957 was a 1931 "A"-coupe in 1958. Sold it unfinished to buy a danged Model T and never got another "A".
I'd love to own a 32 coupe just because they are what's IN! But no way could I ever afford one and really believe any year Model A coupe fixed up right is just as nice.
Whether you guys admit it or not most want a 32 Ford because they are so damned popular.
As for me? I just like any old Ford period.

hehe...Yea we would. Then sell it, build two nice Model A's and put the rest of the money in the bank.

For no reasons that I can really articulate, if somebody were to talk me into being a partner in a roadster, I'd be more interested in a '29 highboy on deuce rails or a '29 full-fendered roadster than any version of a '32. Something to do with the size and proportions of the A, which just appeal to me more than the deuce.

Gotta be the cost. I had a decent 32 sedan body but could not afford all the little trim pieces and other stuff. I just like old cars. 32s are great but so are all the rest.

Always wanted a Deuce but can't justify spending the money on one. My 31 fit my budget and it's still cool as hell. (the 32 Grill helps!)

I want a 32 but I can build model As out of pocket. No loan don't have to work on rust. As are just more convenient.

I've had an A coupe and a 32 5 window. Loved 'em both, but my choice now is an A coupe on 32 rails.
