Hot Rods Model A's on 32 frames How much body overhang?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Gigantor, Oct 2, 2012.

  1. Lot of confusion happening so far in this thread. lol

I think everybody agrees that you should do a little mini channel to bring the body down far enough to cover the "belly" in the top of the 32 rail.

That means that the body has to be a bit wider than the frame to be able to drop it down.

I think how far the body sticks out past the sides of the frame-rails is all preference. I agree that somewhere in the 1 - 1.5 inch range is just right. That also eliminates the need to mini channel, because you essentially hide the gap between subrail and framerail belly with a shadow or line of sight.

Having the rails run completely flush down the length of the body is pretty impossible. That, plus the slight variance in model a dimensions (from car to car), makes it totally impossible for aftermarket frame makers to produce a frame that would run flush with the body. So they design the frame so that the rails are inboard a bit... depending on where you mount the body on the frame, front to back, you can play with the look.

I think everybody worries about the front mini channel and forgets about the rear,I wish my frame would have been pulled in a little more in the back to drop the body down a little,I had to pull wheel well out a little,I just didn't like the front channeled and the rear notched and on top of the frame, just didn't look right to me,just my 2 cents.
