Got myself ab ford engine .wth No 5209325 with star before and after (bell housing ) ASN 28781 on the side above water pipe .numbers are quite clear except the (A) on the second number .cheers
Engine number (which was stamped on the flywheel housing) *B-5209325* passed inspection in May of 1933 for US production. Of course there is no guarantee that a different engine wasn't attached to the flywheel housing. I have no idea where the number ASN 28781 came from. There were no numbers on the pad above the water pipe for US production, must be an Australian thing (or a rebuilder). Note that the 1933-34 engines were slightly shorter (water pump/pulley and generator mount) than the 1932 engines. Was that your question? Pictures? Charlie Stephens
If it has a fuel pump on the right side it is a 32 or later. No fuel pump it is a model A. B's didn't have a number on the block if I remember right. All kinds of numbers were stamped by all kinds of rebuilders and people also. Good luck.
Thanks fellas ,I've got the fuel pump so I'll assume it's a 33 .It will look sweet in this old style sprint car I've built .I will try to post a picture soon
A couple of pictures. First a 1932 water pump. Compare this with yours, the grease fittings should be closer together on yours if it is a 1933-34. Second is a timing cover and generator from a 1933-34. Note that the generator mount is moved back about an inch from its location on a Model A. Not shown is the shorter crank pulley. B engines used in Australia were produced in England. (I'm pretty sure) So you can't check off U.S. numbers.
