That's cool!! I remember some years back buying 4 brand new kits at a flea market for only 2.50 each... I thought that was a steal!! :D

  3. That's about 10 times as much as they were about 40 yrs ago (stop *****ing). If only the full size cars only went up that much (about 100 times as much).

I just got a laugh when I thought about the 40% off coupons, and models being petroleum based products, that they probably would be exempt from the coupon offer because they're are not environmentally friendly, I should dust mine off and get them out of the ATTIC!!!!! HOT HOT HOT Caliente'.

Those 40%-50% off coupons do come in handy when you want that certain kit for your model stash.. ;)

    Precisely.

See that here. Kid has the $$$ to buy the latest playstation...can't afford a $20 model kit?

    I call BS on that

I have a Local Hobby Shop here that offers models from $6.00 all the way to $40...

They also need a new cell phone every year so they can keep up with their friends. I still have the same phone I bought over 3 years ago... And I'm happy with it... :)

Not many stores even stock kits, mainly hobby stores & crafts stores. And none of them are cutting anyone a deal. I buy at Michaels with the 40% off coupon or at model shows only and private deals.

I'm sitting on a ****load of $10 and under kits so I'm good forever.

    Yep!... Same here...
You can now use your smart phone and bring up the 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby or Micheal's and they'll accept it...;)

I used to buy them in the mid to late '60's at $2.98, glue $.15, bottle of paint $.15, and can of spray paint $.98. But I was getting $.25 allowance per week. Sure had to find a lot of pop bottles to finance my addiction. Only have a few pieces from those early years but our school used to have very good rummage sales. Found un-built and half built kits so I was back (teachers got early admission). Now I have about 120 in my attic and I glad I do. Every now and then I'll splurge and buy a new kit like the Hudson I got lately. Best score was a 1/8 scale kit of a Packard convertible. Found it in a sporting goods store in the '90's. Still had a sticker price from the mid sixties. What a deal. Maybe I'll start building all those kits or sell and retire!

.. i have to laugh at the prices.. but you guys think 25.00 is bad.. try building in my 1/8th scale.. most kits are 100.00 or more plus i put alot of real nuts & bolts.. and i buy alot of resin cars.. one car i built. was my 32 ford 3 window g***er .. kit cost me 125.00 resin body was 150.00 plus shipping,,, paint and sheet plastic 85.00 nuts and bolts was over 185.00 wiring and aluminum parts was around 100.00 total cost just to build the thing was over $650.00 ouch dont tell my wife..... and my newest project 1929 roadster will have 1/8th scale machined halbands front and rear ...

Just bought 2 of the Round 2 AMT Peterbilt 352 Pacemaker kits for $28 each from a hobby shop in Pennsylvania. Been out of production for decades and the kits and box are beautiful. Hopefully models continue to make a comeback. Kids spend lots more on stuff much less interesting and lots less fun than models nowdays in IMHO.
