Model Car Sunday/Help find this car!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Jul 9, 2005.

  1. Well it's not quite Sunday but it's close enough. This is a model my grandfather (Bruce Clark) built in the early '60s of the '31 roadster he built and drove from the mid '50s to 1960. It was dark blue with white sides and black fenders, had a deuce radiator shell, '39 Ford tail lights and reversed spring eyes. It was powered by a (from what I'm told very loud) hopped up dual carb dirt-track four banger. If anyone from Connecticut remembers this car or knows anything about it, let me know as I'd love to find it and get it running for him.

Can't help you with the search, but I took thse pics before the sun went down on Saturday. Since then, I added the blower belt and coolant hoses and toned down the stainless trim a bit. Thought you guys'd like to see it done before I show it at the big model car show at the hotel adjoining the Citadel in the City of Commerce today (Sunday the 10th).

Good luck finding that one, certainly would be a cool piece of family history.

The model is no Model A, it's a Revell '32 Roadster (the first version).

Dave, that turned out really cool. The chrome trim completed the look, made it more realistic. Love the headers too.

    I'll have pics if a '32 5-window I started later.

"American Hot Rod" 5-window body and grill shell (same as Grafitti coupe). Revell '32 3-window frame. Revell '40 front wheels/tires, unknown rear slicks, 421 dual quad pontiac motor (and rear wheels) from AMT '62 Catalina. Might swap the motor out for the Hemi in the AMT '53 Stude kit. Don't know yet.

A quick prime on the chopped top of the '40

AMT '29 Woody body, Revell "Rat Rod" '29 truck fender ***embly with Revell '32 front fenders replacing the stock A's. Looks better and allows the front end to be brought down a lot lower. A trick I figured out on my green '31 sedan.

    Fidgiter,

I like what you've got going on there. A pic of a '32 I threw in a box and haven't ever finished with that twin-blown Hemi from the Studey:

One of these days, I'll have to finish it out.

  8. Since I'm kind of stuck in the house, I wanted some quick and dirty model entertainment.

Out come the Chrysler Turbine kits I picked up at Hobby Lobby for $2.67 each. First one is a clean up the flash, screw it together promo style.

Then I got to wondering what an altered wheelbase Turbine would look like.
Got out the saw, sander and Zactos, threw in some wheel/tire combos I'd been saving and here's the result. I like the proportions even though the Keystones are a little too new.

Maybe it's a Sox & Martin mule car.

WTF is your problem with them? Something get your ******* in a wad, someone made you cry? Whats your basis for that statement?

Perhaps something more in line with the inspiration for this project.

I think thats the dumbest thing I've ever read on here.

  15. Ya its a '32 model, but they never made a '31 roadster kit, and since his car had a deuce radiator shell he just figured it would be close enough:D
61falconwagon-I'd like to see some tech on how you weathered that sedan, it looks perfect!

Ok i'll try to explain how i did my 31. All of the rust spots in the body were ground from behind the body. this way when you start to burn through the body starts to bubble like rust.

The body was painted was painted brown primer, then semi flat black, then greyprimer, then gloss red then ultra flat black. Once it was dry enough to handle i sanded through the layers of paint. This gives it the worn look. After that i used many coats of rustal step one. then i applied a few coats of the rustal black wash. After that i dusted it with a light coat of rudy prown primer.

    i hope this helps

Do a search for "Detail Master". They make great braided line, wiring, machined aluminum distributors, coils and alternators and photoetched looms and brackets to organize it all.

Here's what I did since I had Monday off:

I'll post up my 32 Roadster project tomorrow when I take some good pics....Channeled, superchargered Hemi, engine jacked up, velocity stacks, and a balsa wood floor. I also custom made the front of the frame from styrene with a suicide front axle. I think you guys will like it.:D
