I am building a Model T speedster from spare parts and while I have lots of parts gathered, I need a front spring. I do not have much money for the project right now, but does anyone know of a front spring that will fit the stock T front axle that won't break the bank? Stock, original model T springs aren't expensive , you just need a swap meet ! Check the Model T club of America classifieds on their website & check the Facebook Model T Classifieds .
For most hot rods, after the car has lost some lbs. but added a V8 maybe, you take out some leafs to get spring to be happy.
Here is the mockup of most of the car, so its going to be rather light. Sent from my SM-N960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks to both of you! I took a year or so off the site because some of the people were just toxic. It seems that they left or changed... thanks for welcoming me back with all the help you all have given. Sent from my SM-N960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm building a speedster myself using a T frame. I didn't know you could use the rear crossmember in the front (or just spin the frame). Will the front spring clear it or would you need something with more arch?
I'm using the rear as the front and adding a perch on the top of the of the crossmember to get it where I want it... I'm also doing a quarter elliptical rear set-up on my T, so its not quite the same as what you're probably building. There are bolt on brackets you can buy, or replicate, but its up to you what you decide. Sent from my SM-N960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'd say Patience and knowing what you are looking at should get you a fairly inexpensive T front spring. Either by someone closer offering one up for a friendly price or when the swapmeets open up and some of the T guys drag their left overs out.
It just depends what you're looking to do with it... my T is not as much touring as it is racing, so it will be comfortable enough for short trips and the suspension is being set up with racing in mind. You have to decide what you want it to be and stick to that plan. If you're looking to lower, get reverse eye rear and front main leaf springs, front and rear brackets, lowered front axle, or several other brackets that weld on to the radius rods. I have seen some that have flipped the front spring perches, but do not recommend that. Sent from my SM-N960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
