Does anyone have a Model T (26-26 I believe) spring somewhere handy to check a measurement? At a swap meet I bought what I believe is a Speedway, T-looking spring that measures 38" eye to eye. Arch from the center of the eyes to the bottom of the spring pack is about 10". Here's a link to what I believe to be like the one I have. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Medi...MXVdtba6VbXo7FDB4dw0nme9SMAOkLEoaAjFuEALw_wcB I'm wondering how that compares to an actual Model T spring?

I used a T spring on a Model A I previously built to lower it but I don't know what the arch of the spring was unloaded. All I know is that to make it work and to help lower the car I had a spring shop narrow it 1" or 2" and reverse the eyes. I had to narrow it to make enough room between the axle's end flanges for proper shackle function. I have another Model A now and would like to use the rear spring I have if it will accomplish what I want to do.

Thanks, in advance if you can get some measurements off of an actual Model T spring.

An original spring of the T and A persuasion should reach perches about 48 to 49 inches apart. Not sure what a 38 inch spring would reach.

  5. 44 1/2 inches center of eye to center of eye on mine. Out of my 1 man sprint car being restored.

alchemy...I was thinking the perch width was about 49". Thanks.

Donald N....if it's where you can measure with it unhooked and unloaded, what is the arch height measuring from the eye centerlines to the bottom of the spring pack?

It sounds like the swap meet spring I have is more narrow compared to an actual T spring than I thought.

  9. Good morning. Spring as measured. 11 5/8 inches from centerline of eyes to bottom of stack. 43 1/2 inches from center line of eyes with spring fullied assembled. Note my spring has 1st leaf removed just above main. So I have 6 leaves not 7.

  10. And this rear spring is attached to a 1939 Ford banjo rear end. Chassis is a Model T from believe 1926 and modified to lower front spring and raised in rear. Hope this helps.

    Donald,

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to measure your Model T spring for me. That info certainly answers my question. The 10" arch of the spring I have would probably work OK but my spring is only 38" wide. Compared to your T spring at 43.5" I think my 38" spring would look a bit goofy. About 2" or 3" narrower than stock might have been OK but 5.5" is a lot. Thanks again.

So....does anyone near Southeast Missouri have an extra Model T rear spring (26/27?) under the workbench or on a shelf? I might have a line on one locally, but thought I'd put out a feeler just in case the local one isn't what it's thought to be.

I’ve got a pile out back, in case you were coming to the middle of Iowa.

The 26-27 T was a total redesign so the springs may differ from other years. All I have is a 1918 spring, did you know some were date stamped? Height is 13 7/8 width is 46. Good luck with the project. Bob

    Lynn,

I probably have what you need but it'll be middle of next week before I can verify that.
