Only the '26/'27 T's with the optional wire wheels have a bolt-on wheel. All others have spindle mount wheels (like knock-off wheels), so there is no bolt pattern.
Kurt, I have been thinking similar thoughts. I think the outer wheel bearings are threaded on the inside. Could be wrong. I think they are 3/4" and are left hand threads on one side. I am playing with adapting another set of hubs.
I believe the spindle mounts are for wood spoke wheels. I've been looking at them, and I don't feel comfortable trying to adapt the hub to a bolt pattern. I'm wondering if the below item would fit on a T spindle to help adapt to a different set of hubs. I've probably lost my mind. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Weld-Bungs,1538.html
What exactly are you trying to do? Early Chevy spindles/hubs can be used on a T front axle- they're a 6 bolt pattern, or you could use adapter bearings to use a different hub.
A word of caution here... The model T front axle is not strong enough to take a lot weight or horsepower and they don't have mounts for front brakes. Your a lot better of with a 30's or 40's axle
I don't see what the weld bungs would do as far, as adapting a "T" spindle . Those are for splitting bones. Leave the "T" axle for the restorers or the speedster guys. Way too wimpy for a hot rod.
The model T front axle is not strung enough for a HA/GR ! From what I can see in the photos they are using 30's & 40's front axles or aftermarket tube axles.
I hear what you are saying about T stuff being real light duty. I had some ideas about a motorcycle powered car, super light weight. About the welding bungs.. I have some trailer hubs that got on sale for about $10 and use 5x4.5 bolt pattern. The outer bearings are 1". I should be able to screw the weld bungs on the T spindle, and use the trailer hubs. I have not made on the measurements yet to see if it will work. I have a bunch of T stuff, and would like to think something can be done with it.
Many of the T suppliers sell wood wheel hub to wire conversion plates. They come in either 5 on 5 for T wheels or 5 on 5.5 for Model A-V8. try Texas T parts www.texastparts.com
Ummmm. No, T wires are not 5 on 4 1/4". Like I said before, they are 5 on 5". I just went to the garage and measured to make sure that I had not lost my mind. T front axles are not weak. They will bend, but they WILL NOT break. Still, they are not weak. It would take a lot to bend one (usually, back in the day, the result of running into a stump at speed). A high performance engine is not going to affect it unless you're getting the front end off the ground. It is drop forged vanadium steel.
six pin sprint car wheels are supposed to fit on the wood hubs, have seen a few front sprint car wheels mounted on t hubs, Halibrand look cool
Not 100% sure if the sprint car pattern is the same but the MIDGET pattern was based on the very first Midget wheels that were made from welding a 1926-27 WOOD WHEEL brake drums to a 12 inch utility rim. Chevy disk wheels & hubs from the 1920 are a even swap to T spindles. The correct 26-27 Ford Factory wire wheel bolt pattern is 5 on 5. Anyone need photos?
