How many of you guys read Gus Wilson and the model Garage as kids back in the 30's and 40's. Here are all the stories from Popular Science. Hours and Hours of pleasure.

I enjoy looking at Popular Mechanics magazines from the late 40s/early 50s.

  6. my father had a ton of those in the basement in the 50,s and 60,s and I grew up studying those and febely thinking of trying a lot of the stuff

about 2 years ago I got rid of all of them, but still got the big Motors books from the 30,s

Great thread ! I bought this book when it was new back in 1979...and it is FANTASTIC !

It's called "Wasn't The Future Wonderful", by Tim Onosko, and, yes, it's based on Modern Mechanix, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Mechaniix Illustrated, etc.

If you can find a copy on Amazon or EBay pick it up. It has many, many Pages of full color reproductions...like the ones we've seen here. PLUS, it has the original stories about the inventions, AND at the end of the book goes story-by-story telling if the invention worked OR why it couldn't.

A book well worth owning !

(AS A SIDEBARr: About 35 years ago an old family friend passed away, knew I loved old cars, antiques, magazines, etc., and told his heirs to give me his collection of Popular Science, Modern Mechanix, etc., magazines that he had subscriptions to. SO, many of those that I have the ORIGINAL copies of are from the period that is covered in this thread 1932, 1933, 1934, and, on-and-on. AND, many of the covers that you've seen on-line are the complete mags that I have. Thank you, Pete...God Bless and R.I.P.)

I never knew this stuff existed on the net!

Now I just need a couple thousand hours to sit down and read it.
