Just wanted to check on Mike Cox. First, to make sure that he is Okay. I know that he is probably sore from going into the rail, but I hope that is all. The VERY last thing we want is for anybody to be hurt. Also, ***uming that he is just sore since he seemed fine on Saturday, I wanted to check on his coupe. It seemed to the untrained eye (mine) that it was a bent axle and wheel. Has he had a chance to make sure the frame is straight? And that the rest of the suspension is cool. I hope that that is all it is, and that he will join us again next year. Is he married? Did his wife kick his ***?
Mike was shook up, but not hurt. Late that evening, he hadn't even got stiff. He waited untill he was on the way home to call his wife. Having met her, I'd guess that her only real concern was for Mike's health. The car is just a plaything. While Mike is a do-it-yourself type of guy in a lot of ways, I think he have the frame and suspension checked out by the shop that originally built it. I don't know how he feels about racing, but I can't imagine him getting out of hot rodding. He's part of a huge group of Deuce owners in Houston that regularly get out on the road together. I'll try to follow up with him this weekend.
It ****s he smacked the wall with that beauitful coupe and thank God he was ok, but I hope he's not gonna quit racing because of it. Live and learn, just take her easy next time. What's the fun of a 12 second coupe if you don't take it to the track now and then. Tell him we look forward to seeing him on the road soon.
Glad he's doing good. Maybe after getting the car back on the road, and getting some miles on it, he'll feel better about being back on the track. I was kinda intimidated by my car after I crashed it a couple of years ago. Took a while to get used to it again.
hey, i elbowed him in the aftermath and said "..it's still a damn nice car.." he just grinned, for the first time that i saw. it IS a helluva nice car. and damn quick too!
I caught up with Mike this afternoon. He's got the car torn apart. He bent the rear spring hanger and found a very small crease on the body where the car grazed the aramco. Surprise, the spindle and the front wheel are still true!!! Amazing that the wheel wasn't bent. Looks like he'll just be swapping out the front axle and pulling the rear spring mount into place, doing some paint and body work and putting it back on the road. As far as racing, Mike said he'll race again.
Good news all around. That was a hard hit for such little damage. Imagine if a honda had touched the rail like that. It'd be totalled. Thanks again for being the guy willing to drive to the Uhaul. When your car is on the road, you've got that karma just waiting.
