I started putting the T-5 in my 49 tonight. It's gonna work out real nice-like I think...Everything looks good so far, just need someone to machine me a pilot bushing and machine my bellhousing and it COULD go back together with a fair amount of ease...No digicam so no pics, sorry..... Cody
That's good news for several of us... not that I ever doubted Jason's expertise . Which T5 did you go with?
You're in Jarrell? I don't know any machinist in Austin or Waco, but I had Bob Wilson open up my bellhousings. After that, I was able to do all the rest of the work. I'm guessing you're using the Mustang T5, Ford stamped bellhousing and late flathead? That's got to be the absolutely easiest way to put a modern trans behind a flathead ever. The T10 swap is a little easier, but you only get 4 speeds and no overdrive. Anyway, you probally don't have to have the pilot bushing machined. Just get the Flathead Ford OD and the T5 input shaft for the ID and get a heavy duty roller bearing from the local bearing supply. Jarrell doesn't have a bearing supply? Get it in Austin or Houston. Anyway, Congrats on mating it up. See you in Austin next week.
Blake- I ended up using a mustang one that I got off a HAMBer. I thought it would be easier than pulling that one you found, turns out pulliing it probibly would've been easier and a hell of a lot faster....I will have to modify the clutch a tad, for the pivot point that originally bolted to the trans, but other than that it looks good. Jason? Shit-he's in dallas I'm flying solo on this!!! Modernbeat- that is exactly what I'm doing, I take it you've never been to Jarrell? We don't even have a stoplight much less a bearing supply!!!!!! See ya in Austin!!!!!!!
