Wow, Wow Wow!!!! Dude that laid really nice! Labor day's a coming!

  2. I hate to say it, but every time there is stone chip, and they will happen, the blue will visible again. I wish I had used black primer instead of gray, on my car.

Hmmmm good point Chris. I know on the rest of his suspension he used some crazy air craft grade paint that is supposed to be like military grade strength but yeah on the frame he's using normal paint. Maybe this is all the more reason to hit the frame with that suspension black!

I definitely am taking notes on that for my coupe though.

The primer was actually supposed to be a little bit darker. I had a choice of "tint" color and I thought blue under the blue that I chose for final color would be of benefit. Since it's a little brighter than I had planned, I'm concerned about the comment that Chris made, above. Had the primer been the color closer to what I had planned for (my mistake when I picked the color code. Never trust the color chip sheet! UHG!) chips would have been less of an issue.

I really wanted a more "sinister" and more "all-business" final appearance with all the black and the dark color I chose. The Smurfy blue actually reminds of the '32 Comp Coupe that Rudy restored, but it's just too bright for my taste. Retina burning for sure. However, it sure does demand some attention!

Dammit... I know. Wish it would have been a little darker. Gonna be like "Light Brite" when I get a chip in the frame. :( Oh well! No turning back now!

I chose an Acrylic Urethane for the frame, so hopefully the harness factor with proper prep work will help resist chipping.

Just carry a small bottle of touchup paint if there are bright spots that bother you. I think you'll be find since only the smallest amount of the frame is visible from the front of the cowl. Everything is neatly tucked away.

  8. Damn....that's a good point. Will have to consider that in the future.

That was EXACTLY why I wanted to go with a color that was close... But didn't get there, unfortunately! Actually, YOU are the one that gave me the thought to begin with.

  10. Precisely why I am spraying red oxide under my black. I want it to show years down the road after it gains its patina through use!

I think red Oxide primer would look nice after some use under any color as long as it's a dark color. Sure the Rolling Bones guys hurry up that look but it gives the rest of us a glimpse of what's to come in 30 years on our cars!

I have sort of an Olive drab sealer/primer under my black firewall and suspension. I'm not terribly worried about it seeing how I can touch what ever I need up up with a little brush. And besides that, my car is not going to win best paint any time soon.

HOLY SH!T!!!!!! The paint wasn't supposed to be here until later this week! The paint supplies, including the color, were just plopped down on the floor of my office!!!! I can't believe it!! I'm so excited I can't even work anymore. I might as well go home! HAHA! I'm in complete disbelief that the final color is sitting here at my feet!!! AND! I was nervous about the color being right after the primer being a little off, but it is RIGHT ON THE MONEY from the spot they put on the lid! And it is going to look EVIL!!

YEAH!!!! 5-years for this moment!! 5-YEARS!

  15. Fuck it, go home early, take the rest of the week off, and get it painted!

^^^^ This is sound advice.^^^^^ You don't need to be engineering things that can hurt people when you've got Hot Pink paint on the brain.

Well I would TOTALLY do that... If my car weren't at work! HAHA! D'OH! The company I work for has a pretty big building. The owner, his kids, another guy, and myself, keep our projects here to work on. I'm very fortunate, but taking time off to work keeps me AT WORK so I would still feel inclined to help people and actually work, rather than jam on the car. So I try to work in the evenings when it's quiet and on the weekends for sure!

I think it'll look good with black suspension. And that rainbow flag you were going to run on the back like Bigfoot.

  22. I didn't want the color of the spandex he will be wearing while driving. I wanted the color of his car. He is going to look mighty stupid if his pants match his paint.:D

    Double Fucker!!!!!!!

About the stone chips... Just prep the shit out of the primer so the topcoat adheres like crazy to the primer. That way the chip will blast you down to bare metal. Then before you know it... Rust and a rat rod!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

No good advice for ya there buddy, but dont worry, this trailer queen show car wont ever see the street so I'm sure you'll be fine... ;)
