Hot Rods Modified Murray - Race to the road! Progress in Review!

  1. Scooter,

Here is another idea for you, this style Rotisserie work's really well. Never mind the O/T car but this style is nice because you have 8 different positions ( insert joke here ).

Yep! In fact, until I get the time to make a fancy roller system for this one, I will probably use mine in that fashion. Just roll it around on it's hoops until I get a chance to make the roller system and brakes. If I can get the frame rolling on hoops to do the work, then I'll be way ahead of the game already. Then I'll finish the roller and brake system for body work later on. Having the body on it's side will make spraying the interior panels so much easier!

Thanks for the tip! Is that your shop? Nice layout! And I like 356's... O/T or not.

HAHA! Fair enough! I deserved that!:D

First and foremost, I have to say that I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY glad I bought the fresh-air supplied respirator! This Polyurethane I'm using is serious stuff! It is TERRIBLY toxic!! The respirator works like a dream!! Invested in some comfy goggles as well, since this stuff will absorb into your body through your eyeballs... Nothing to mess around with! I can't believe there are people out there that think it's okay to shoot without the proper PPE. NUTS! I basically RUN outside as soon as I'm unhooked from the air...

I feel like a space man! HAHA! :D

But now for the good part! First batch of parts are done!

Next I'm going to hang the rear axle and split bones and get them done. Unfortunately, I have to re-prime the rest of the parts that you don't see. When blocking the parts out, I found a few spots that weren't thick enough and sanded through to the bare metal. The REAL sucky part, is the epoxy primer needs to sit for 7 days to completely cure and cross-link, per recomendations of the top coat manufacturer. So next weekend I'll finish up the black and move on to bigger and better things.... THE FRAME!! :D

You're the cutest little.....actually I can't stop laughing at your get up! When I'm suited up I look like an ompah lompah while you remind me of that damn movie and the only line I can remember is something about junk in the trunk.

Awww crap now I've lost my train, eh oh well *points and laughs*

Scott, it's sooo good looking. The black probably really has a fire lit under your ass huh? I cant wait to see the frame done and then assembled. I definitely would like to invest in a Fresh Air System, there really no reason I should be fucking around with my lungs like I do.

    New Myspace pic? Hott! :D

When you sand the stuff, if you cut the bare metal just a bit, its not a really big deal, if you cut it alot, then youre doing the right thing. I can't remember, are you using a sealer, or just straight to topcoat?

    Looking good!!!

HAHA! Thanks man! The paint suit kind of reminds me of those pajama things we had as kids that had the feet sewn on. :D

A couple places were minimal, so I left them. Redid the primer where I made repairs and will block them so they're ready for black this weekend.

Here's the pile of progress after the weekend...

Being this was my first time really EVER painting anything with anything other than an airbrush or a rattle can, I expected problems. Overall I feel like I did pretty decent, but DID have an issues with one part so far and I'm pretty sure I know why...

...Had a HUGE problem with one of the split bones.

I came in after letting the paint sit for two days and found this...

it was only on that piece. I ran out of paint right before shooting this piece and had to mix some new real quick. I think I blatently screwed up the mix. I was tired at this point and ready to stop and be done. I think I mis-measured when I was adding ingredients. It didn't even fully set. It feels better this morning, so I should be able to stand it soon, but what a bummer. I'm sure I'll make many more errors as I'm learning. I now get to learn how to fix it. No big deal! Learning from all my mistakes.

Later today I'll pull the tape and masking off the quick change and get some pictures. I think I'm most proud of that piece! It turned out even better than I thought it would.

Thanks for all your comments, everyone!

Those pieces look good Scott and one out of many isn't too shabby!!! I'm thinking that I might have prematurely painted my spring since I feel like the third spring up needs some reshaping after looking at yours. Of course my shit is old so I am sure it's got some issues and is not perfect.

When do you paint the frame?

I can't believe your wife lets you still wear those things!

    Which spring?? Front or rear??

Going to order the body and frame color sometime in the next couple weeks. I want to paint the fuel tank and frame at the same time, so I still need to do that work yet and I need to roll the two hoops for the rottisserie and get the roller back to its owner and finish that contraption before I prime and paint the frame. So I have a little bit of work ahead of me yet, but will be spending a little more time in the shop during the week to help get those tasks in order.

The Onesy is a fetish of hers. She's got issues I know. Haha!!

I keep forgetting that the frame is going the same color as the body. I was wondering why I haven't seen any progress pics of it yet haha!! I guess you're pretty much all done with the black after you fix that part huh? Well shit that's awesome dude!!!! Half way there!!!

It's my front spring. I reversed the eyes myself and I took out every other spring and now I am left with 5 or 6 springs. I probably should have spend more time beveling the ends so they did not dig which is what I am feeling right now. That Posies is looking better and better!!!

Correct! Frame will be blue, as will the grille shell, headlights, fuel tank, dash rail, garnish moldings, windshield, annnnndddd.... probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.

The front spring I have is actually more arched than the other one I returned to Posies. It's still a little de-arched compared to a stock spring, I think. As long as all the leaves are sliding the way they're supposed to be, then you shouldn't need to do anything with yours. Just depends on your arrangement.

  25. Looks good Scott! Can't wait to see some more progress. Must be nice to begin to see the end of the tunnel.

I personally would have stuck with the "pods blanket blue"....but your color looks good I guess....MAN!!! you must be going crazy waiting to finish.....I need to just go back and read it all again and some hemi tech. Congrats Scoot, that must be a hell of a good feeling of accomplishment.
