Thought this might me a useful link for this thread. I've been working my way through it for the last while (lots of material here, it's amazing!) and I've noticed a lot of posts referencing whether or not the engine and trans had to me of the same make as the car. Chevy in a Chevy, Ford in a Ford, etc. I've even seen some posts saying unmodified factory heads were required. Looking all the way back to the '64 rule book (first year MP is listed) it says any American automobile engine, year, make, and model optional. Same for transmissions and rear ends. It also says any modifications may be made, with only a limit on number of carbs used, and no FI. This section doesn't seem to change at any point. I've been referencing this collection for years for various things. Currently I'm looking to the '66 and '67 edition for my Biscayne build, along with this thread, for maximum authenticity. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2006u57wp7sqpxt/AAC9WnRAsXqmyEgvaR8KYSowa
"Satisfaction" seems to be at NY National speedway on LI. I think that says "Manhattan" on the side. There was a Manhattan speed and sport in NYC. NY Nat. was also an AHRA track and ran /HR class' Pat
Just curious about some of these cars. I thought NHRA did not allow radiused wheelwells in M/P but I have seen several on this thread. Maybe those cars ran AHRA? IHRA? Or is my memory playing tricks on me again.
In NHRA they could not be cut but some were massaged some. It was a fine line with the tech department. Up until 1968 7" was the limit on width and they measured quite often. Many were bounced during eliminations and at teardown afterwards. After 1969 anything that fit in the "stock" wheel wells was ok. AHRA was not limited to 7" in "Hot Rod" and body mods were ok. IHRA was out of my area and I don't remember their rule.
1320: Sounds right. I had a 57 M/P car and was allowed to flatten out the inner lip for 9" tires but could not cut the wheel wells. That was not allowed by NHRA through the entire life of the catagory. Then they latter allowed narrowed rear ends, wheel tubs, etc. But the tires still could not stick out beyond the body lines.
57 in the other lane looks just like mine did when I sold it to RSVP to a invitation from my Uncle Sam. Pat
Not really LB, you look at the ET and numbers and see where you sit. Chrysler did send sponsored cars suggestions and maybe the factory cars were tops in S/S and Bill was better off in M/P. He's got the trophy at a National event. Pat
