I am hopefully starting my modified this Christmas break or this summer. All i have at this point is dreams and a model A frame. What type of front suspension is simplest to use (also cheapest) I want to go traditional with this. I have heard late 30's and 40's Ford work pretty well, but i do not know what is entailed. The vision for this follows the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle. Simple yet tradtional is what i am aiming for. I do not want to try anything complicated at this point as this will be the first car i have ever built from scratch. I just want to get rolling down the road. More than likely i will not even chop, channel the body or Z the frame (unless necessary). I know it will not be super low, crazy kool, but i would like to take baby steps. I can always change it later. Please give me your input and suggestions/advice. Thank you. Lil Joe
Speedway Motors sells a couple different front axle kits that aren't too expensive. What kind of parts do you have now?
Check out the current Modified thread that Kustombuilder started. Look at the pictures and take notes, there are some great modifieds there. If you stray too far from what's posted there you won't have what is considered a Modified. Frank
you're on the right track-you are asking for help...never assume you know enough to not accept advice from a knowledgable friend. 37-48 front ends are the simplest but a model A axle with the right parts will also work. at the rear a lot depends on the powerplant and trans you are ending up using........good luck!
Thanks for the replys. I did look at the kustombuilder post before i posted, but i didnt want to hijack the post. Will the later Ford (30's+40's) front suspension just bolt on, or do they require modifications? Does anyone know if there was ever a tech about assembling a front end on a model A frame with the suspension i am looking to use? Also, what should one of these complete front ends cost? Fair market value is what i am looking for i guess. Thanks. Lil Joe
