Hey Guys- Thanks to some help of some people on this board I am moving on along in my Modified T build planning....... I found another build on here with the right size tires and wheels, I want to use black or primer black body and wheels, possibly chrome centers and bands but that's still in the air.... On to the question I have never used Bias tires before so I know nothing about sizing them, the other build uses 475-17 Fronts and 650-17 Rears.....what size would those be with a 15" wheel? Also what width tires do you guys recommend? Also I am going to mock my ch***is out of 2x4's until I get the Z and stuff worked out, should save some hacking later......what's a common Z length to start with, 14"? I probably wont channel the body, if I do it will only be an inch or so...... Also should my Z be a 90 degree or shallower, seems 0 is the least stress 90 is the most stress on the joint any opinions? I plan on using a narrowed and chopped duece grill, what kind of radiator should I look for? I will be using a 300 straight six most likley, maybe a SBC either way it will be an auto also.......I would love to find a Flathead to rebuild but I havent been able to find any in my area, if anyone knows of one in the soutwest virginia area please let me know.....I would travel a couple hours to get one for the right price And one last question about font suspension, do most people run suicide fronts on modified style cars, what other options do you guys recommend? Remember in all you suggestion I want this thing to built as budget as possible......... This is my original post http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2507973#post2507973 And this is car that I will take a lot of stying que's from..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=170331 Thanks again for the help.......
JCook, There are some great posts on the subject of "Z-ing" a frame, just do a search. In regard to the tire sizes, if you go on Coker's site (he is an alliance vedor as well), you can look up the sizes you mentioned (they are all for 17" wheels) and find comparable ones for your 15" wheels. Best of luck- post some pics! Bill
http://riverviewtire.com/Tireheightchart.html the 4.5-17 has an overall diameter of 26" and a cross section of 4.48, tread width of 3.4 the 6.5-17 has an overall diameter of 29.8" and a cross section of 6.4", tread width of 4.4 a 235/75/15 runs about 29" tall a 165hr15 is about 25.5 tall they'll look a little beefier than bias ply tires. when designing your frame, you should have your actual wheel tire combo, front and rear axle and suspension, body, engine (including fan) and grille shell. block everything where the proportions are to your liking then take your measurements. for some 10" is cool, for some 16" is right. it depends on how you set EVRERYTHING up. i like the Z to follow the rear of the cab. there's your angle. suicide front ends are easy to fabricate and brackets are readily available. it all depends on what you want. justin's Fodge looks like it has a spring-behind set-up with a 4" dropped axle, cant see his cross member, but me thinks its probably a model a style. i like that style personally.
