    That modified was in either Rod & Custom or Street Rodder some years back.
    I believe the body was an early Chevythat was modified way back in the day and was found hanging in a garage- what you see is just a simple restoration!

    Also shown before... but she's all mine. Am I in-between styles here? WWW's, flat black paint and steelies and caps with a 2.3L topped with 2 webers. Rad or spanning too many decades? Just interested in opinions, I ain't gonna change it! I dig it and drive the hell out of it...

    This is a great topic!

    Here's a 27 going on an A frame. I cut the frame top and bottom just under where the cowl is and spread it so that the rear matches the body. The body is shoved quite a ways back as I'm using the stock wheelbase lenght.

    Glad you like them. Lets me adjust where I want and leaves my jackstands free for other things. I've got more and would be glad to sell you some. LOL Of course shipping weight would be a bitch.

    It's ..well what do i say? . A guy I went to school with Died under car when it was supported by blocks like those .
    Remove them from the work shop and buy/make proper stands.When a car comes down you will see it coming just before the lights go out...for ever.

    It would be DUMB if I were using them as jackstands. I only using them there to support the frame at the height I want it at, plus the frt and rear axles. I wouldn't think of using blocks as jackstands under a car. I have at least 3 sets of very heavy jackstands which are used all the time. Which is why I didn't put them out of circulation by using them where not needed. There's nothing wrong with using them in the manner shown. Take a look at this pic and you'll see there is no motor the rear end isn't hung nor is the front axle. It's simply a frame and the bucket. As you can see it would take at least 4 sets of stands to support what I have here

    Here is the modified from posts #16,#27,#28, & #29.
    It has more work to be done, and has had alot of work done, but it is basicly the same.
    Windsheild top is still 38" high.

    The modified in posts #4 & #7 is the car that got me interested in modifieds, I saw it for sale,
    on consignment, at Boyd's shop a few years back. '22

    I didn't say it was dumb,I just said "get them out of the workshop". Concrete blocks have no place supporting anything except a wall.
    Regarding my school mate...the sight of those blocks being used like bought back memories of his legs kicking under the car as we tried to lift it off him .

    No argument that blocks are not safe to support a car with. No you didn't say dumb but that's what you meant and I agree IF I was supporting weight of any consequence. As far as them being used in my garage, this isn't the norm. As I said I have jack stands that I use all the time but for 250# max supported by 4 blocks they are not needed here, plus there is no way I would be under it anyway. I certainly understand your feelings when you see them because of what happened to your buddy.

    i guess you have to start somewhere - my 27 sitting in my tiny garage. still in the concept/parts stage.

    [IMG]

    photoshopped with slight speedster influence...

    [IMG]

    what i'm thinking so far...
    * about 10-12" kickup, almost level - scrub friendly stance
    * standard 2x3 frame buildup but splayed at the body to get the seats between the rails
    * channeled
    * either ford 2.3 4 cyl or chevy 2.5 4 cyl 151ci (pontiac??) <== whatever i find first
    * chopped/angled farmall grill (no apologies) to match cowl line or another crazy grille i just got from hamber
    * 16" wires
    * i'm 6'3", but fighting to keep wheelbase as short as possible

    been drafting my brains out on the frame design. no one told me there would be math! pulling kickup and engine bay dimensions out of my ass. ...otherwise have gotten an unbelievable amount of info from hambers,,,johnnyfast,seisseisseis,artiki...

  27. this is my mates old modified from the uk

  28. My uncle just finished this car, he had a blast building it, and he says he has very little money in it. It's got a speedway body, home-brewed square tube frame, Chevy II for power... He made the belly pans, hood, Gas tank.. the scoop on the hood is a modified 40 Chevy headlight.. I really like this car, and I've told him a hundred times that it needs a set of black steelies or Kelsey-Hayes, but he won't change it. By the way, the paint scheme is copying a Sprint Car my Great-uncle ran in the midwest in the late 50's.

    That's a nice looking modified, your uncle did a great job.
    It would look cool with wires, but those don't look bad at all.
    He could have done much worse, as you probably know :eek:.
    Thanks for the photos... '22
