I wouldn't get too quick to channel it very much. You have to try it on for size. I can pretty much sit down and be inside mine. Too much lowering and you may be sitting too high. Just my opinion but there are some Tbuckets around here that look cool parked on the grass. But when a driver get's in it look's silly, like riding a garden tractor, but that's just my conservative opinion.
I got about $1300 in mine so far, Radiator core, alternator, window, and final details will put me close to 2 grand finished price. [image]http://www.directimagehost.com/is.php?i=38687&img=Dsc01887.jpg[/image]

I can set in it now, with where I think the seat will be, and just be about a head above the back, barely. I only want to channel it enough to make the frame disappear. 3 inches maybe 4 at the most. I have to agree that how far you stick up is a major consideration. It always looks silly to see a big guy with the whole top of his torso higher than the side of the car.

I believe you're right, further study of your doors (same as mine) the relief between the bottom of the body and the bottom of the door are about the same as I have, and I shortened mine 3". My touring rear section is from an unknown source but I believe the sides are lower.
I wanted to sink the seat between the tube tunnel and frame rail, but fat guy and A frame, no way. Next time I plan to make a wider car.

  3. This 28/29 roadster pickup based modified belongs to my friend Garry Carter. He has been working on it for several years and it is alomost street ready. Garry needs to update his article on Daniel's site.

as for the debate weather certain cars are actually "modifieds" or something else. i'll agree a couple look to me more "track roadster" than anything else, and the reason i did not post a pic of Stu Hilborns car myself(one of my favorite cars of all time i might add) is because i concider it to be a "streamliner", and that is always what i heard it refered to as.

i use the term "modified" losely in refering to a roadster body with no trunk or bed in the back that appears to have been built for dry lakes racing, or even a dual purpose rod for lakes racing and street use. we are in no way going to build a period correct "modified", nor are we going to narrow the body. it will be a street driven hot rod based on the styling of the old "modifieds". nuff said...

The third one posted by Rustypipes (black with the baby moons) is just about perfect IMHO. The proportions are right on the money.

Garry also owns the teal 28/29 roadster pickup just behind the modified. It runs Jag suspension on all four corners and a warmed over Pinto four.

There are a lot of posibilities. I'm building an Olds 215 all aluminum V8 right now. Also like the Chevy II/MerCruiser 153 and the MerCruiser 181 four bangers. They have the late Chevy (55 up) transmission bolt pattern and they are easy to set up for hot rod duty.

  9. Jaypee, I'm curious about the body on yer modified. What parts did you use to make it up? Looks cool with no doors. Are they from a sedan?

Well, the cowl and firewall is from English 32´p-u, rear section is from 32´sedan and for patch panels in rear corners i used 48´caddy roof. The story behind the mod is that Kartsa (also hamber) started this project. I bought it and finished it last winter.

  16. Well Damn VonScott - I didnt even notice at 1st that the car you posted is a Dodge. Thats what I am building. we thought it to be a 25ish, but no one knows for sure. I just got doors for it as well and they look indentical to those. I like that car, but not sure on the rear tires. Are they 19-21" cant tell from the pic. Anyways cool car..

The rears are 16" ford with 7.50 tires on them. I'm gonna run the same size on mine except I'm running steelies out back and wires in front with motorcycle tires. I don't know if I already said that that car is a '22 Dodge Roadster? Other than the fact that I changed my mind about running a straight 6, now a '59-'60 Olds 394 with hydro tranny, that's the look I'm going for. In my opinion that car rocked. [IMG]

would you all please look at modified front suspension question and respond if you have any advise?

THANX. i'm somewhat bummed that there's not been anyone come on that thread and say "yeah; i've had all 3 and here's what i liked and disliked about each of them..."

i'm not desperate, but thought i'd put this on this thread since folks with modifieds seem to be looking at this one.

now back to your regular programming...

Really 16" my bad I am a dumbass I'll admit. they looked real big but thats what I'll be running so I guess I stuck my foot in my mouth. Yeah I too was going to run a straight 6, but now going to run a 57 283 until I can find something a little more rarer. Ok, I like the car more now.. [IMG]

Here is a pic of the mock up of the DOGG Bucket, I have since dumped the Buick motor/tranny off to Rusty210 and going to use the 262 taking up space in the shop. I dont know if a bucket is considered a modified even if it doesnt have a bed in it, but since I am 6-1 300 this is the closest thing that I can fit in [IMG]

I started this T-Mod but when I found my current Tudor body I swapped the frame.

  23. the blue mod with the 4 cyl motor and narrowed 29 cowl in [an early post here] is the work of Joey Engleman of Independence Mo.
it runs a Weber carbed Quad four motor/belt driven horizontal mount Magneto driven off water pump belt/A bell housing made from a temporary spare wheel!.........S-10 5 speed and a quickchange rear...its a great peice you should see the frame- its all hand built with all joints hand riveted no welding.
the grille is a stainless rack from a supermarket cooler.

I'm eventually going to build something like this. This guy built what's been racing around in my head, with a few exceptions.
