5wbomber: Thanks for posting this. I owned this car through most of the 1980’s and it is nice to see it again. It is loud because it never had a muffler. Dick Patton built the car in Ohio in 1973, inspired by a Tom Daniels illustration in the January 1973 Rod & Custom on track roadsters. I think of it as a track roadster instead of a modified. It was featured in several magazines in the 70’s. Barry Lobeck called it one of his early influences in developing the “Ohio look”. Patton originally painted it black and quickly added flames. The guy I sold it to painted it yellow. Other than that, it appears close to what Patton originally did. What are the plans for it?
Here is a link to a thread that shows it at the Tulsa Nats in 1973 before the flames were added.

If it looks like the pictures, I hope you aren't going to do much more than change the oil!

WOW!!!i thought the car was nothing that had history, the car still runs and drives fine has a chevy 4 banger in it still as well, we were going to puta v-8 60 in her and skinny real wheels on it and i was going to sell it for a freind...... but i guess it just needs touch up and black paint one more time!

I think a return to basic black would be more consistent with the traditional look. I never cared for the yellow. A V8 60 would certainly be an appropriate engine for a track T. While my magazines went with the car when I sold it, I believe there was a feature on it in the April 1975 Rod Action as it was at Tulsa. The 1975 Hot Rod Magazine Pictorial had a full-page color shot of it when it had flames, taken at the Minneapolis St. Paul Street Rod Nats. R&C also had some coverage of it during that period, but no full feature.

With a 23T or a 27T, do yourself a favor, and put the floor UNDER the transmission, and the seats BETWEEN the frame rails (not above the frame rails).......so you sit in the car and NOT on top of the car.

  19. It sure looks like a 28-29 Chevy frame, and although it's hard to tell, those look like 6 bolt chevy wheels too.;)

  20. I really like this one,it's a pic from a New England event.

    OMG, a complete set!!

Early lakes modified are often referred to having Chevy or Essex frames.
That looks like the Chevy frame used.
Anyone knows what the Essex frame looks loke, and what years?
The Essex frames I've seen are not something I would put under a modified.
The one they used for modifieds seem to have their front springs hanging outside the frame rails.
