I’m interested in trying to find a way to use an original model a fuel gauge with a universal sending unit. I have a spun aluminum fuel tank from speedway and I’d like to install a universal sending unit and have that unit send a signal to some sort of device that will actuate the arm on the back of an old model a fuel gauge. The new fuel tank is mounted in the back of my car, and the fuel gauge is in the original spot. The old tank was removed, and was replace with a fuse box and wiring harness. I’m wondering if a servo of some type would work to actuate the arm on the back of the gauge. Thanks.
Completely doable. Leave the arm off the back of the model A gauge. get a mini servo mounted that can actuate it, then use a fuel sender resistance output into a microcontroller like an Arduino and the arduino would tell the servo which position correlates with which resistance. With this you could use any sender range since the programming is custom. There would be some coding and wiring needed to make it work but would be pretty simple.
