I thought I saw an ad in Hemmings once for 5 speed conversion for the Model A and Model B engines. But can't find anything on the internet about it. Anyone have info on such a conversion? Is the flathead V8 bellhousing bolt pattern the same as the 200 inch I4 A & B engine?
No, it isn't. A '32-'34 4 cylinder transmission case will take a '39-'48 V8 gearset and '39 style shift tower; that's what most guys did 50-60 years ago, although I'm sure there are more modern conversions available today.
I'm sure there is a conversion but not being able to fidn it onlien is irritating me big time. I don't want to wait till I get home to pick up an old Hemmings to see if it's in there like I thinkit is. Thanks for the tech scoop on bellhousings.
You didnt look very hard. Ahooga.com and Fordbarn have all you need to know about information on using the F-150 3 speed with overdrive and the second choice, the S-10 4 speed with overdrive.
Take this for what it's worth. One of my old bosses, a Model A resto guy told me the Pinto engine was a bolt-in for the Model A trans. Making me think, perhaps a Pinto 4 speed would be a bolt-in going the other way....
Found another one that a HAMBer (??) did with a Lakewood shield and flat adapter plate, it looks like.
That link goes to some place I don't think is correct. It's some kind of stupid search site. Def not a parts retailer. I liek that bell housing though.
Took 30 seconds in latest hemmings to find Auto Restorations 215 W Gilbert St Muncie, IN 47305 (800) 955-3139 They sell a complete kit for $900 bucks but don't know what it includes.
Also, if you can borrow the latest Secrets of Speed rag, there two articles on the S-10 5 speed and the Ford 3 spd w/od. The pictures help.
