well, it's been in the mid 90s the last few days so i figured it was a good time to work on Mongo's 60 Olds out in the driveway  .

i had started on the right taillight a week or two ago. i got the mounting base made and welded in and the outside skin made and welded on. well, yesterday i got the left side to that same point. today i started on the inner skin of the new taillight housing on the right side and i pretty much got her licked. at least fabrication wise. we still have some body work to do once i finish the left side.

surprise surprise i found some lead work in the rear of this 45 year old car. seems someone had a hard time backing up this barg without hitting something. the repairs (on BOTH sides) seem like real good repairs, but it's aweful hard to weld to LEAD. so i had to grind the lead back enough i could weld the new housings on. a little high quality plastic body filler will smooth out the edges before we're done.

believe me when i say that it is only a matter of time before these killer taillights claim another victim. yes i said ANOTHER! you see, when i was first building the right side the car was on it's wheels, and much lower to the ground. we'll lets just say i have a 36" inseam and the point was about 35 1/2" off the ground!! TWICE i nearly castrated myself walking by the rear of the car. then the other day, when Mongo was over (after the car was in the air), he walked by and the fin reached out and grabbed him by the arm as he walked past. he whined about that for an hour :D .

so. if you see Mongo's Olds at a car show, or just in a titty bar parking lot someplace, be warned. if you get too close, it'll git ya!!!

he's got em. and some spare too i think. they are destined for Ebay along with a bunch of other "extra" parts. i'm not too sure how you'd make em look "right" on a model A, but don't let that stop ya from tryin.

  29. The only thing getting inspected on this car is the cooler before the next show to make sure it's full.

Excuse me sir, I'm from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, commonly referred to as "Nista", or by others as "The FEDS". We would like to discuss with you the safety aspects of your design for these tailights. We are afraid that you could impale some innocent pedestrian who was not paying attention to where he was walking. You would be at fault since you chose to drive this "Iron Maiden" car and of course stupid people gawking at women in mini skirts and not walking defensively are always in the right. Therefore, we will require you to devise a safety testing program costing on the order of $50,000,000.00 to demonstrate to us, the ACLU, and the Insurance Safety Institute that these tail lights will NOT harm any innocent pedestrians nor any other person being stupid and not paying attention to what they are doing, whether or not your car is in motion. We expect your plan of action to be on the desk of our project manager, who we have NOT named yet, by 2:00 PM today. If you have any questions and/or comments please direct them to the Justice Department who we will be notifying of your complete lack of concern for pedestrian safety. We are certain they will be investigating you immediately and we strongly suggest you retain the services of the most expensive lawyer you can find. This is obviously going to be a long drawn out legal matter and we relish the chance to spend your hard-earned tax dollars prosecuting you and also forcing you to spend more of your hard-earned money on your own attorney. Good Luck and we know we will win this one.

    Yours Truly,
Administrator, NHTSA (aka Nista, The FEDS)
