Wow, when I see stuff like this happening I am starting to believe my goofy sister-in-law that we are living in end times.

Somethings out of kilter when that freaking Camaro goes for over 4 times the price of a car done by the Michelangelos of rods and customs.

It probably took more than $40K just to get all of those legends in one shop at the same time. What does Gene get to spray a car these days? What would it cost to have Bill Hines himself do leadwork on your car?..Norm is getting $1500-2000 just for one of his shift knobs these days,......etc. What a deal someone got.

Its not like the car went to the scrap yard just because he sold it....if it were anyone else here on the hamb who bought the car, they'd have a post thread on the awesome deal they got. How many times has anyone seen the car since the build while Jesse owned it...I haven't seen it at all, and it will end up in a collection, be preserved, the guy got a killer deal. What is any different than when we have a barn find thread on here when someone finds a duece coupe for short money.
I understand that the best guys ever built the car and you won't find another team build like that one, it was amazing to watch it. How many of Sam Barris' cars or others have sat in a collection unknown to anyone else for the past 50 years, now that show is in LA where they found all these cars and have put them on display, and we have a chance to see them, they still exhist, this car will too. If everyone is upset about what it sold for, maybe they should have been there to bid it up to a million dollars.

Watching Hines lead the nose in that episode was one of the best things I have ever seen on TV. Just checked the clip that was posted, I had completely forgotten just how obnoxious Monster Garage really was.

    Dude - chill , lol  !
Noone is pissed about Jesse selling the car , or where it's going to end up . People (like me) are just amazed/suprised that more "common" stuff , brought tons more at the auction . It's nothing more than that . Jesse sold it because he had to or wanted to , and the guy bought it because he was there & had the ways & means to buy it (at a great price) .

Just take it for what it is . Tell ya what - I'll pour a Jack & coke for ya - and since you're not here & I hate to waste a good drink , I'll drink it for ya . Mmmm ... good & cold !

It was a public auction... If ya wanted the goddam thing you should have gone down and bid on it.
Those that actually HAD the money and not a mouthful of bullcrap felt it was worth 40 grand. That is therefore a fair price.
That's the way I see it. Its a nice car with great history but I wouldn't have given that much for it.

Unless you personally know the new owner is a collector with a warehouse instead of someone who lives to drive their car and enjoy it why would you assume this? At the giveway price it sold for just about anyone could afford it. I'm going to hope that the person either bought it to drive or to turn and make a profit and that person plans on driving it.

  14. I need to comment on this thread. I love the car, I risked my Barrett-Jackson entrance fee this morning to sneak behind the barricades to get a picture with the car. I almost got kicked out. My feelings are the car sold for a cheap price. The new owner got a screaming deal. I went to the auction just to see the car on Wednesday and was disappointed that it wasn't there ( it probably hadn't arrived yet). I was happy it was there today. I loved the Monster Garage episode that the car was created on, It was probably the best show they ever did. It was cool to see those 'ol hot rod guys create something together, I think thats why I think the car is so special to me. As for Jesse...who gives a flying fuck why he sold it, or what he has done in the past, That guy is a metal God and thats where I go to church!!! CHURCH OF THE METAL GODS!! jmo

The car would've brought much more if it had a better owner history.

This historic custom sold for $24,000 a year and a half ago at an auction at the Petersen Museum..
It's the "La Jolla"....pretty long history as a custom from way back.
Everyone was stunned when it sold, but nobody would pay a penny more....
The auction had been widely advertised just like the Barrett-Jackson auctions are advertised for months ahead of time.
Everyone knew that the "Monster Garage" custom was going to be sold.
It wasn't pushed onto the stage as a surprise.
It just sold for, apparently, what it's worth...just like the "La Jolla".
It's a weird feeling when your icons are cut down in status by the paying public.
    It's not "the economy".
There was plenty of money at BJ that was spent on cars we wouldn't be caught dead in.
    Go figure.

I think it's a case of people with the best taste like most of us just don't have the money that the high rollers do. I think that's a good thing, or else a poor guy would never have a chance to own a cool car. They'd be way out of our price ranges.

  19. Really? You know his current financial status? Funny, he just sold a house down in Seal Beach arer that sold for more than a Million Dollars more than he paid for it. Has another unit for sale that will probably bring a pretty big capital gain as well. I don't think you have a clue as to how much money he currently has.

Why? He was obviously done with with it for whatever reason, Why would you care if he kept it or not, or it went to someone who does want it?

    Dead nuts Doug!

  20. I looked at it up close today and the paint is kinda beat and it really needed to be detailed, its still a bitchin car but IF Jesse wanted it to bring more cash he coulda been there like Bret was and pump it up,maybe he's movin on with his life....besides his future wife has a bitchin chevy already............it went cheap but the car needed some help from what I could see............

i feel the same way i really didn't care why or how much, i just would of liked to seen more of it on speed rather then the back side going down the ramp. and as for JJ i really don't give a crap about his personal life to be able to judge him just like he doesn't give a crap about mine. i will say one thing that he is one hell of a craftsman and i wish he would make some more how to videos.

If that thing is only worth 45k I hate to think what any car I could build would be worth. It even has the tv show as the ultimate documentation.
