Hey guys what ever happened to Moon Glow? Is the car still exists and who has photos of that famous car.
From what I understand it went through a bunch of owners and eventually found it's way to a s**** yard where Duane Stecks brother was able to grab one of the blue vent windows just before it was crushed,....... as Duane's brother watched (as the story goes)
Traded for a sports car, Kustoms went out of style, it got crushed, last Kustom Duane ever built!!!! Very common for this time!!!!
I remember seeing Moon Glow in a magazine in color when I was a kid. Still is the badest 54 in my book! Sorry I never got to see it in person.
Just found this link about the car,... (it's where the pictures came from http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.carnut.ca/g/Gwebsized/moonglow1nt-vi.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.carnut.ca/g/index.html&usg=__gueJUFoeFrQt-U14nk-V7VKrdEw=&h=517&w=750&sz=87&hl=en&start=54&tbnid=ZuYx3FY2hfGF_M:&tbnh=97&tbnw=141&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmoonglow%2Bcustom%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D20%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USfficial%26sa%3DN%26start%3D40
yep,,,got crushed,,, a sad end for such an iconic kustom there are several excellent clones around,,, but they don't fully capture the essence of that car (although the one owned by tony feil comes close)... duane basically built that car in his driveway,,and if i'm not mistaken was the only kustom he ever built,,,,,
Don't remember the owner's name but this is his cloned version of the Moon Glow. Car resides in Vancouver, BC and is gorgeous note: so as I was putting this together "Harms Way" put together his post ... oh well enjoy.
The quintessential custom, IMHO. One must put the matter of it getting crushed (if that is indeed true) or whatever happened to any old car....they weren't icons then, they were just another car. In this case and many others, they were great cars to be sure, but not necessarily recognized as such in that day and time. They were used cars. You sold one to make another.
This is my favorite version , silver with pearl white scallops tipped in candy blue. Does not get any better than this im my oppinion
I've seen pics of it being painted in his driveway.... Actually there is a book that was done that followed the porgress of the car with pics...
I think Rod and custom done a spread on it in the 90s with alot of the original pics. Duane gave watson his album of the build and they used it if im not mistaken
Kustom 50 thats the photo I seen when I was a kid looking at my brothers car magazines. And you are right that is the best version of it. But everytime I here Moon Glow I see it in my mind painted with that pearl white paint that the Cadillac Eldorado had that paint looks like the the glow from the moon!
I know this is an old thread, but I just seen the Moonglow clone up for auction on Ebay. Bidding starts at $195,000!!
Yikes...and it has the Wrong Grill, Wheels and a bunch of other stuff different than the original! CLONE it is not!
In the listing it's called a tribute car, not clone. So I guess maybe it should be called Moonglow II or something. It's definitely a bad *** car, but you're right John!
The closest one of a clone thats out there, resides here in NJ.The blue at the start of this thread was built by Bill Layman from western Pa.If you guys remember,Bill started the repo Appletons.
So very sad to hear.... I have this exact picture framed in my garage! I've loved this car since I was kid.
