i just got a set of moon disc's for 20 bucks and there the 3 hole ones. i was just wondering if u have to use a special type of screw to put them onto stock steel rims?
I used to use #10 sheet metal screws with a rubber washer, otherwise the discs will vibrate and the holes will wear out, make sure to tighten them periodically...
The disks come with some self-tapping screws and nylon washers. It was recommended to me to get ****on head allen bolts of the same size and tap the wheel with a regular thread tap. It has worked really well, and with the exception of one hole that stripped and had to be redone (welded, drilled and retapped) they all work just as advertised five years later. You can check the screws for security by lightly tapping on the hubcap. If it is loose, it will sound distinctly different than one that is on tight. Another hint I was given, but have not yet tried is to put about six dabs of silicone around the lip of the wheel under the cap. It provides a cushion, reduces vibration, and even acts as an adhesive for the disks. A friend of mine who has run the disks for a while swears that it solves quite a few problems.
I have used the stock self tapping bolts and they kinda ****. on my last install on a different car I tapped a 5x1.0mm hole (metric? because I had the bolts) and used ****on head bolts with nylon washers on both the bolt as well as siliconing another set onto the back of the disc it'self. I also used a dab of blue locktight on the bolts.. they have been on for a while and have had no issues
all righty i gotta try some of these out ideals out tomorrow if i buy a extra rim for my cheater slicks
